I am wanting a 3-9 (3-10 in this case) to put on my HDR for yotes. What are the pros and cons on these scopes? I have heard alot of good reviews. How do they perform in low light? How do they compare to the VX-I (not including warranty)? And do you know how good their warranty is? Thanks.

Never played with one. I can't get past that huge honkin' focus wheel, which looks like a candidate for snagging anything within arm's reach. They get pretty good ratings on the precision shooting websites, though.

Spend your money wisely....

Get the 3x9 in a VX1 or a VX2, send it in for turret installations, learn the language of MOA, and rule the world......

I have 3 different Nikko Stirling scopes.

The first is a wee little 4 x 28 that is about a thousand years old. It sorta works. Laughing

One is a Gold Crown 6 x 42, that my daughter bought for me, that I have mounted on my rimfire. Its adequate for bunny busting but it really is an economy scope...no bells and whistles and barely functional in low light.

The other is a Nikko Stirling Platinum 3.5 - 10 x 45 Wide Angle. I have this one mounted on my .243 Weatherby Vanguard. Now this one is a much better scope than the Gold Crown but I don't believe it is as good as a Leopold VX -1, well certainly not in low light. I use it day and night and have no problems with it, although it is an earlier model than those shown on the NS website. For my money they are a good value scope and I would buy another.

Phil.....the big wheel is removable so it isn't an issue.

I have to agree with Wilswalker though. I think the VX-1, and know the VX-2, is a better option.

As someone said in the BINOCULARS thread.....with optics you get what you pay for and price is a pretty good indication of quality. At the end of the day it all comes down to the best you can afford or justify.

Cheers, Vince

Personally I've zero fear of most things Leupold and can like price vs. function on most levels but tend to leave the too pricey stuff for those who think they need it.

I also learned my lesson on a Leupy Rifleman scope....good glass but can't get turrets installed.

For that reason and the given warrenty, I source both used and new VX1's and VX2's with regularity.

I can like the VX1 as optically it differs little from a VX2, though I can't like the friction adjustments on the VX1 but the installation of turrets will negate that issue......

For me it's Leupold or bust............

Thanks. How does the Burris FFII compare to the VX-I, II series? If it doesn't a VX-I or II is on the way.
