Is anyone into long distance shooting? I have shot at Bisley (you may have heard of it) on the 1000yd range and in South Africa I shoot on a farm at an old pick-up truck that has been left for me to practice on. I use a No.4 SMLE Lee Enfield .303 with a ramp sight. I have, so far, pushed it out to 1700m (1850yds) and this year hope to clear 2000m - shoulder permitting, that thing kicks like a bitch! I have a friend (behind suitable cover - friends are hard to come by!) who spots for me and calls it in on a mobile phone and I have adapted the old 900yd ramp sight with an add-on sliding bit that I hope will give me the range this year. I hope, one day, to hit the door of the truck from 2 miles. Given the right day and the right round.................. Who knows?

If you can, pick up a Sharps 45/70. Then you can shoot like Quigly. I have a 1000yd range across the street. Never tried it, but, I have intentions of buying a Bellm 222 Rem Mag Imp 17" barrel for my Contender pistol and giving it a whirl within the next year. Of course I will be using a scope.

Awhile back I shot at Willaimsport 1000 yard BR club. My gun was UL 42 pounder chambered in 308 Super ( 30-8mm mag) 30" Hart barrel with a T20 Weaver scope. I was never one of the top shooters, but managed to put 10 into the high 6's,low-mid 7s some of the time. I watched Earl Chronister shoot a 24" 1950 yard group at Indiantown Gap under some trying conditions. After while it became work and gave up it except for long range groundhogs and deer. I finally sold the rig. I have too much fun just building rifles and informal shooting now.
