Hello all,

first of all, thank you to all who gave me feedback on my shotgun a few months ago. I have had lots of fun with it. Now i'm planning to get a rifle.

What do i need to know before buying a rifle? I don't know anything about rifles including the bullet.

I have been looking at the new Model 750 Woodmaster Autoreloading from Remington. The walnut wood stock and front end look very nice, but is it for me?

Any input would be appreciated.

Hunter

Howdy. Give us a little info on what your going to use it for. Target or hunting If for hunting what size game ?.You said you were looking at the rem 750, if it's for hunting You would also need to check your states laws on auto loading rifles there not legal in all states for hunting.
Joe

I have a 750 Remington .308 and it cleans up in the woods and the bench.

Good luck with yours. Very Happy

Wishstar, what joe said is absolutely your first priority. What are you using it for and if hunting...hunting what? There are rifles available in every size imaginable for every kind of game in North America and then, what are you comfortable with? what is your price range? The good news is if you throw some of those answers out, a lot of guys in here can provide you with some valuable insights. Of course, most gun shops I've been to are usually more helpful than most retailers in addressing their customers needs.

Good luck with it.

It depends on what you prefer, can handle well and afford. In some places, a semi-auto rifle is not permitted for hunting. For serious target work, there may be other rifle options. So it depends. All the best...

a good rifle is just like a good pair of pants. how do they fit, do they go with the shirt, you know what i am saying.. what are gonna use it for, how much ya wanna spend, distances you want to shoot at, recoil, like has been said before go into a shop and ask ask ASK! they will be happy to hand them to you, explaining thier pros and cons, then take a ride to the local range and talk to some owners as well, some may even let you test drive thiers for a shot or two.. then you can look to the pocketbook and see what you can afford.. a lot of factors go into buying a rifle that guys dont think of, it took me over 6 months of himhawing around before i went out and bought my .243, it started with "i want a rifle" went to i want a rifle for deer.. then went to i want something that will do deer and groundhogs at a distance... then it was hey savage is on sale...

Welcome Wishstar99. You've come to the right place to learn.

I would recommend a bolt action rifle instead of the auto.
You might also consider something like the H&R single shot rifles. After all it's one shot, one kill right? At just over $200 at Wal-mart they are inexpensive and very accurate. You can also get interchangable barrels for it with a wide choice of calibers from .17HMR's to .500 S&W. Check out thier website at hr1871.com.

Another factor to consider is your physical stature and the amount of recoil your willing to withstand. You don't want to get a caliber that kicks like a russian mule because you'll develope the bad habit of flinching when you shoot it. If that happens you won't be able to hit the broad side of a barn with it.

Just tell us what you need and there's alot of people here willing to give good advise.

With whatever you choose always remember, SAFETY FIRST above all else. Aim straight, shoot often and practice practice practice.
