A month or so ago, I bought an older excellent used Marlin Model 336 in .35 Remington. It shoots well when it does not misfire. I have read on other sites of this problem and have not encountered it until now. My local gunsmith was well aware of this condition and explained the options to correct it. As a result, the rifle is in the shop for a careful examination and repair. It will likely end up with a new firing pin and heavier springs. I really like Marlin centerfire lever rifles and just want reliable ignition. Anyone else ever have this problem? Take care...

The older marlin's misfired occasionally. On the newer ones the hammer is a lot thicker which added mass and as far as I know solved the problem. I occasionally get a misfire in my 336 built in the 60's however my 1895 45-70 with the newer, heavy hammer has been 100% reliable.

I have seen this problem in only a very few Marlin rifles. A competent gunsmith should be able to sort it out and fix it. All the best...
