All of our prairie doggin shots fall between 5 and 500 yds. out. We could take farther shots but the wind normally does not allow for that. I found that the better the quality of glass you use the less magnification you need. A Leupold VXIII set at 12x is far superior to a BSA at 24x. The highest magnification I use is 16x and generally the mirage is too bad to use much more than that anyway.
