The ATF has busted Elite Ammunition out of Harvard ILL for making brass bullets for the .223 and 6.8spc. Now I have bought barnes solid brass bullets in the past in 223 cal for yote hunting as it does not tear up the pelt.

But with this latest raid, the ATF says the 223 bullets are now classified as HANDGUN Cartridges.

It's sad but I'm starting to feel sick about the so called freedom of the West. I always tought you Americans were supposed to be THE example concerning freedom. Where did it go wrong? When did they vote this new law that allows burocraty to take over from common sence?

Update: Heres a link to the company's website and this page does indeed show a letter from the president that they were busted last month. How in the world can they reclassify a 223 cartridge as a handgun cartridge?

Barnes also makes brass 223 bullets, and there are other companies out there plus making solid copper bullets. Time will tell what happens.

It seems to me like the creeps at the ATF are testing the waters. Seeing what they can get away with before people start making a concerted effort to stop them. To date, they have been met with relatively mild resistance. I don't think this is the extent of it, but the beginning of a campaign to tighten firearm restrictions a little at a time. I know it sounds alarmist, but the ATF is in the news too often for my liking.

Isn't this what your Second Amendment is all about? It seems to me that there are a couple of people at the top of the BATF that are calling the shots...or at least authorising the "shots" put forward by someone beneath them. If you guys do not take a stand now, then they (the BATF and Govt) will take another step...as controversial, if not more so, than the last. It will be as I have said in the past..."death by a thousand cuts".

I am not advocating "taking up arms against your Govt"...but you need to get the entire shooting fraternity together as one body and take Court action against the BATF and their hierarchy...for the sake of your firearm ownership and that of future generations.

.223 is a LR round. This won't stand. They tried a similar HG ammo thwart thing here in Ca and it failed. Too many cartridges are "antique" and started as LR rounds.

We really need to break up the "good 'ole boys club" in Congress and the Senate. They are all "horse trading" with each other to get what they want with out a thought as to what you and I might want or need. In the next election, we need to put up candidates that have never held office before. There are plenty of intelligent, honest, hard working Americans that could do the jobs of our Congressmen, and Senators. NO ONE should vote for someone that has held the office before…… Worried about a confusion in Government? What do we have now??? These knuckleheads are totally disfunctional.
