The first washing machine that I can remember is my mother's Maytag with a gasoline engine that had a foot tredle starter. Dad replaced the gas engine with a electric motor and us kids used the engine in a home made wooden go-cart.

As far as the list above is concerned...I don't remember any of them...(actually I do...All of them).

Bushy
Thanks for the history lesson, I never knew they had washing machines with a gas motor. I do remember my aunt having a washer with ringers on top and remember too well every spring my mom and dad just about carried everything inside the house outside for spring cleaning. Also remember bringing summer clothes upstairs and downstairs in exchange for winter clothes. BTW, I'm in my early 50's.

I don't remember gas engine washers either. That must make Bushy the oldest dirt around!

Since this was before my time, I thought I'd verify their existence.

Yep, they are for real! Here is one in action.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rjQ79vBEqc

They came out in the 1920's and used an old kick-start gas engine that was designed initially for use on washing machines when rural electricity was not available.

Bushy, do you remember your first light bulb, too?

McDonalds introduced their "speedy service" in 1948.

Fish & chips first appeared in the UK as a "fast food" some time between 1858 & 1863.

I'd have to be older than dirt to remember that......... Very Happy

(Fish deep fried in batter was originally a Jewish dish)

Light bulb? What's that? We use lanterns that burn whale oil here in the Ozarks...

Ah yes...Fish & Chips...Mom and Dad would take us kids to an old English restraunt on the outskirts of Portland Oregon every Saturday for Fish & Chips.

Let's see here. I hike with a man in his early 50's anywhere from 6 to 10 miles once or twice a month in the foot hills of the Ozarks (they ain't mountains). I just spent the day cutting down a dead (lightning struck) oak tree and cut half of it up for fire wood.

Not many of you could keep up with this old man (who isn't all that old).

Soooo...Have yer fun (fer now). I WILL get even...
