Its probably surprising to alot of people, but I never had a CCW. Never really felt the need. I'd pack openly when out hunting or whatever. I always thought about it but classes were always either too far away, or at a inconvenient time that I could not attend. Recently though, they decided to hold a class in our local city hall, less than 2 blocks from my house. I figured if I didnt get off my butt and do it now, I never would.
The class was actually taught by 2 of our state legislators, very nice fun gun loving guys. I learned alot of things I didnt know... but I also learned quite a bit about or legislators and the law creation process. Those guys are doing a HELL of a good job with laws to protect 2nd amendment rights and personal safety issues. Very eye opening and I'm glad to have attended.
Now I just gotta double double check all the forms and send it in with the payment and wait 60-90 days for the application to get processed.
I dont know if I'll actually carry or not, my work forbids weapons on its property... but I could keep it in my vehicle. Most private citizen weapons sales now, are requiring CCP just as proof the buyer is a better type of person than john doe.
If I did carry... I really like the look of that Springfield Arms XD-Compact

Excellent! You do not need a gun until you need one very badly. I have had a CCW since 1967. All the best...

Good job Dallan. I can recommend the glock G22 in 40S&W as well. The wife and I both carry them when we carry. I also carry my G20 at times as well. Very reliable and accurate as well. And they can be had at reasonable prices on the gun auction sites.
The wife could carry a 500 S&W though, as she carrys a HUGE purse!

Way to go Dallan. I have had my CCW for 4 years and just renewed it. Here in AZ they are now valid for 5 years.

One interesting thing I learned during the class from the legislators, was that they passed a new law based on the "Castle" laws already in place (ie: your home is your castle and you can do whatever you want in it, and to defend it however you want). They basically passed a law that if signed by the Gov, will define your automobile, RV... even hotel room as an extention of your "castle". That means you could legally carry a hidden loaded weapon in the vehicle without a ccp!

We have that here in Missouri and it includes a "no retreat" clause when in public...

Here is a list of very valid reasons for a CCW.
WHY I CARRY A GUN ... OR WHY I SHOULD
My old grandpa once said to me, "Son, there comes a time in every man's life when he stops bustin' knuckles and starts bustin' caps, and usually it's when he becomes too old to take an ass whoopin.'
I don't carry a gun to kill people.
I carry a gun to keep from being killed.
I don't carry a gun to scare people.
I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.
I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid.
I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.
I don't carry a gun because I'm evil.
I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.
I don't carry a gun because I hate the government.
I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.
I don't carry a gun because I'm angry.
I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.
I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone.
I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.
I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy.
I carry a gun because, when I die and go to Heaven, I want to be a cowboy.
I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man.
I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.
I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate.
I carry a gun because, unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I AM inadequate.
I don't carry a gun because I love it.
I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.
"Police Protection" is an oxymoron. Free citizens must protect themselves. Police do not protect you from crime; they usually just investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.
Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to take an ass whoopin.'"
...author unknown (but obviously brilliant)
Remember the average response time to a 9-1-1 call is over 6 minutes.
The average response time of Winchester 'Ranger T' 230 grain .45 caliber bullets is about 875 FPS.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!
Cheers, Vince

The Police do not have a duty to serve and protect you as an individual.
Their duty is to protect and serve the community as a whole.
Their duty to an individual is to investigate a crime and attempt to arrest those responsible.
The anti’s still refuse to believe in this even after it’s been upheld by the Supreme Court !!!
