Thanks guys...yeah...it was rather unpleasant and bloody embarrassing. As Bushy said, its bad when two sides of a family get the hackles up with one another and innocents become the meat in the sandwich.

But not to worry. The 1700 acres we have been offered is much bigger than the other place and at this time we have unfettered access, so looks like I am going to have to learn to call up dingos. I'm looking forward to it like you wouldn't believe. Very Happy Very Happy

Cheers, Vince

Follow-up: Yesterday morning, while backing out of the carport to go to work, I stopped and pulled out my binoculars to check out my feeder down by the creek. I counted at least 10 wild hogs down there. I sat there and watched for about 5 minutes. I wanted to call in sick from work, grab my 25-06, use my pickup hood as a gun rest, and try my hand at a 450 yard shot. I decided to go with my initial plans and do a Saturday morning hunt...I may regret that decision on Saturday morning. Any wild hog hunter will tell you to take your shots while you can. They're prone to change their feeding habits if something spooks them.

If I didn't have my own stock to care for I'd hop on down there and try my hand at eradicating your hog problem...Missouri is suppose to be over ran with hogs to the point that the game commision has told the people, "If you see a hog, shoot it. No license required. Just shoot it"...
So far in my sojurns into the forests around here I haven't seen any. Nor have they cause me a problem around here. Just the damned armadillos...Their almost as bad when it comes to rootin' up the place

I've been out some but the pre rut is starting here in Mich. Seen some small bucks trailing Does. This weekend should be good. Rain in the forecast though.

Hunting in the rain can be the very best. I've shot a lot of my bigger deer on rainy days.

I almost wish we had hogs around here, that sounds like it would be a fun hunt, not to mention a tasty pile of meat in the freezer.

I agree, a light rain is the best time to see Bucks.

Cary,
Was going to write you a note about the B-52 strike by Saturday then decided to read the earlier pages and see that the B-52s have already had an air strike on your place. Sad

Talked to a guy at the co-op last week said he has built a PSP/rebar trap with a rebar welded push up gate that is hung on a 3/4 pipe with larger pipe nipples as a hinge. Said he catches up to 30 hogs a week. Much better than the drop door deal. Baits the inside and outside with corn and cobs. Pigs root right into trap, especially if they see another pig inside trap eating.
Best of luck,
Ed

Ed,

I know all about hog traps. I used to have one, but someone stole it from a place I was renting. I guess I'll have to build another.

When I walked out of the house this morning to head to work, I found about 20 wild hogs in my back yard again (I think they are telling all their buddies about this neat hangout. They must have just arrived, because I could see no damage to the yard. I didn't have my pistol on me so I just hollered at then and they took off like a flash. I'm getting really p*ssed off. I wish I had some claymores............

Bushy, I've got armadillos also.....believe me, I'd rather have them rooting in the yard any day. At least it don't take a tractor and half a day to level up the mess.

As far as "How the Hunting season is going?":
Hunting is great! Not seeing animals or sign like we should. About everybody in the area (North Central Idaho) is in the same situation. I've seen more Wolf sign this year than I would like(prefer NONE). I'm sure that has an impact on it.

I got up at 4:45 this morning and found the wild hogs in the back yard again. I was livid!!! I ran at them screaming like a wild man. They just about tore all the fences down getting out of there. I guess they thought I was a hog eating demon (little do they know) !!! Tomorrow morning I'm going down to the feeder to shoot a couple. It'll be my luck that they won't show up. If that happens, I'm sitting on my back porch all night with a spotlight and my SKS.
