Thankyou "D" There is just no way a 308 can shoot the same .308 cal bullet, of any size, faster then a 30-06. It's like saying a 30-06 can shoot the same smaller bullets faster then a 300 mag. It's just not possible. Sorry hunterjoe, but I call Bull Sh$t.
And I'm not comparing Winchester to Remington, and I don't give a rat's a$$ about your Speer #13 Manual. It is certainly not the only legit reloading manual out there. In fact there are a few more I would rely on for facts before that one. Powder companies for a start!!!!!!!!

Hey 1895ss!! Yer "C" is on fire!!
Yes...I noticed right off the bat. Even if you pitted a .22 against the .30-06 some one would try to tell you that the .22 was a better choice...
As I said before...What ever your needs, both would serve you well. The .308 will do about the same as the .30-06 for bullets up to 150 grains even if it is a few fps slower. As said, with bullets heavier then 150 grains the .30-06 is much better suited...As far as range and accuracy is concerned. I've heard both arguments and will let those people on both sides of that fence believe what they want... This battle of the calibres has no winners...

30-06 is stronger and more accurate .308 is a whole lot cheaper

Camels are an endangered species in California. We had Army camels in the 1800's but the only ones left are in the zoos. The California griz is extinct also. Don't think we have a need fer any cartridge larger than a 17 AH.
I've been AWOL here for awhile but, didn't we do this topic last spring??

We don't have any Griz in AUS but we do have plenty of camels.

So why did you quote a bullet manufacturer?
Why is it that when I ALSO quote a reputable bullet manufacturer with opposing data that suddenly bullet manufacturer's aren't to be trusted?

If a load manual says the 30-06 should be at a lower pressure then the 308Win, to give the 308Win higher velocities over the 30-06, it will go into the circular file if it was mine.
All SAFE maximum loads for a 308 will be even safer in a 30-06 but the safe max loads in a 30-06 will NOT be safe in a 308Win.

To suggest that the engineers at Speer would download the .30-06 JUST to give the .308 an advantage is ludicrous at best. If you had bothered to check, you would KNOW that, as per SAAMI specs, the .308 does in fact enjoy a 2000 psi maximum over the .30-06 (62,000 vs 60,000).

Since we know that velocity is a function of pressure, the round with the higher pressure (all other variables being equal) will produce more velocity, regardless of the amount of powder being burned.
