Sure, the Electoral votes are tied to the popular vote. In 2000 Gore received 543,895 more votes than Bush did and lost the election. Yes, they counted all of the Florida votes. Did the electoral college vote as required, yes. Does your vote count, of course it does. Just not like it should.
My point was that we are eroding our country's standards by not demanding more from our candidates. McCain is a good man, sure. However Paul is better. So what are we the voters to do? Go with whom the media pushes us toward, and because of the media support, he can win or with the man whose standards are better but the media doesn't like and thus he can not win? Who has the power to elect the president, the liberal media???
Kill me now but, sometimes I loose all grip on sanity and don't think it wouldn't be too bad if the Democrats got in and messed everything up beyond recognition. That Obamanation comment was great by the way. Would even that wake the voters up the next time around?

I also believe that every vote counts. Our system does work. We were not designed to be a true democracy, but a representative republic. This to to keep large states from dominating the smaller states. In a true democracy, we would only have to let New York, California, Florida, Texas, and a couple of the other larger population states vote, the rest need not bother. That's were all the people live. But, that doesn't give the people of Alaska, Rhode Island, Wyoming, etc there representation.

As far as voting for marginal fringe candidates, who do not have even a small chance of getting one-half of one percent of the votes, my belief is that you might as well walk into your polling place, pick up your ballot, walk into the bathroom, wipe on it, and flush it down the toilet. That's how much it will count.

We must be carefull or we might wake up the day after and find that we have the greater of the two evils as president.

That's my opinion.

Y'all have a great day!

Cary

Now Hillary wants to make it illegal for anyone under 21 to buy a handgun (already law since 1968) and register all handguns nationally.

The Heller case before the Supreme Court may actually broaden the decision to the larger issue of the 2nd Ammendment. It may even go back to constitutional beliefs that the Constitution only confirms inalienable rights, not grant them. This may enable class action suits against restrictive state legislation and clarify further private rights of ownership.

But, it may be less an issue of restricting the firearms themselves rather than the ammo. We can expect attacks on the useage of lead, for example. We can anticipate excessive ammo taxes and ballistic fingerprinting of ammo --- cases already tried but diminished in view of cost and effect. Still, it is the logical target for the antis and I am sure we will see more effort along this line than mere firearm restrictions.

I think that I have written this before, but in order to get control of Congress, the Democrats had to run moderate to conservative candidates. Otherwise known as "Blue Dog Democrats"
Most of these folks are pro-gun and pro-life.
The liberals shot themselves in the foot on this one, because even though the Congress is controlled by the Democrats, they don't have the votes to pass more gun control.
Just last week, a Democrat in La. was elected to congress who is pro-life and pro-gun.
I hope that this trend continues.
Even at my Wife's school, the vote for the jackass teachers are talking about voting for McCain over the Irishman.
