Dallan,
Damn Dallan, you are one lucky lad. I have had a back injury and back surgery.
Watch carefully for any changes in function or feeling to your hands, feet or legs. I had to have two discs removed two years ago due to an old parachute injury. Nerosurgeon said that if I waited, the nerve damage would be perminent, my left leg was paralized. Watch for any risidual effects. If anything shows up, get yourself to a real good nerosurgeon and have an MRI done, do not wait around for the effect to go away, unless you want the effect to be perminent. Who is good? Ask your doctor who he would use for his back.
One truth about back surgery, when it is time for surgery, you will know. I knew, and knew without any question it was time.
Right now, rest. Do not use the back for a time, give it a chance to recover. When you feel better, start walking and work up to walking a mile or more on level ground, but walk. Hold the back upright and walk, walk, walk.....build the back muscles to support the injury.

Taking my meds and anti-inflamatories... feeling very sore but alot of the pain has diminished since yesterday. Hopefully this trend will continue and things heal up quickly. I got rear-ended a few years back and it hurt the same area I broke yesterday.
Thanks for all of the positive thoughts.

Hang in there buddy, and do what the Doc says. Married to a Physical Therapist, and with a past neck injury myself, ( Dirt Bike mishap) I know how important recovery is.. Good Luck.

Dallan, I hope the healing progresses but with enough pain to remind you that we all need you to keep this website going. OTOH, I believe you will be snowmobiling fast and furious and a little wiser next winter.
Oh, and did you get any of this on video?

Be very careful with your meds mate....especially the anti-inflamatories. I had a Dr overdose me on Naprosyn about 20 years ago....gave me a Duodenal Ulcer, literally burnt a whole in my gut. Not pleasant...still paying for it cause I am now denied the best treatment and pain relief for my back problems. In fact Naprosyn is a nasty drug...it put my father-in-law in Intensive care some years back because of a bad reaction to it.
Heed the advice given by all here well mate. As good as your back feels in the next couple of weeks, be mindful that it will not have fully healed. Would really hate to see you suffering for the rest of your life with a problem that can't be corrected and also the associated problems like arthritis. You will end up needing one of these you beaut chairs to go hunting.
Also mate, give the little lady a pat on the back and a big hug for being so level headed and calm in a nasty situation.....she sounds like a champion.
Cheers, Vince

Dallan,
I have a compression fracture too - first dorsal I think. I got it when I was a lot younger and back then I WAS bullet proof. I was sore for about three days and then forgot all about it. If it happened today it would take the better part of six months to heal.
Take care, rest and only take the meds when you need them. They are too easy to become dependent on.

Dallan, get well soon and hope you never need that "redneck wheelchair" that vince posted. But, if you do, we have a rifle rest option up here in the mountains that will bolt right on that booger, haha. Terry.

When you get older, it takes a little bit longer to heal. I spent three months in bed after about a 20 foot nose dive out of an oak tree. But, that's another story. My only comment about that is that a friend, that was there, said it sounded like someone threw a big watermellon out of an oak tree. I didn't think that was one damn bit funny! When I hit the ground, by gosh, I still had complete control of that darn chain saw.
After that, I reset my standards to include 3 foot tall and BB proof.

You are very fortunate, glad you are not worse off. I grew in MN and know that snowmobiles can be a ton of fun-except when the sled goes one direction and me another.
Hope you recover quickly.

Dalln,
Is there anything you need? Anything we can do for you? (besides the prayers that are already being said).
