Ahh....Sweet Tea...One of the many beuties of the South! I love it when I get to go visit our Southern Brother's and Sister's - most places you don't even need to ask for sweet tea, as it isn't an option and they will look at you funny if you order unsweetened. My wife caught the bug at a Shoney's in Nashville, we haven't looked back.

Our company has offices all over the country, when we get our folks in for training from that area (assigned to the SouthEast region), we usually have to endure their pleas for help in locating a place that serves sweet tea.

I have to admit, that is the only kind of cold tea you get in our house.

I am a bit surprised that no one from our neck of the woods has mentioned the champagne of iced tea, a great southern tradition, Sun Tea. Sun tea is true southern, made by steeping a handful of tea bags is a big glass pickle jug full of water, on the back porch or back deck, in the morning sun. When the tea reaches the right color to your taste, mix sugar with the warm tea and serve over ice for lunch and supper, no mixing with water, you drink it right from the jug. The tea is not bruised by boiling when fixed in this manner and has a very smooth and distinctive, light taste.

I remember well the quail dinners I had as a kid at my Uncle's home near Sand Mountain in North Alabama. Fried fresh quail breast, gravy, biscuits, mashed potatoes, fresh green black-eyed peas, sliced fresh garden tomatoes and sun tea.

Vince I'm thinking about importing a bottle of that Bundaberg to try... you sparked my taste buds cuz I love me some good rum. Would you recommend the underproof or the overproof to try first? I'm thinking maybe I should just go ahead and get both..hmm....

Either or mate....The better OP is one called Inner Circle. It comes out of the same distillery as Bundy. Maybe it would be worthwhile to go for the plain Bundaberg Rum first so that you get to enjoy the taste without destroying yourself first up. Laughing Bundaberg Rum and Ginger beer....very nice, but to "moreish"....you find it hard not to drink it quickly and open another can. Very Happy Laughing

i don't use anything with sugar, but that does'nt mean i can't enjoy some darn good tea.i simply substitute splenda which has zero calories and tastes EXACTLY like sugar, because it's made from sugar.the sweeter the better, this is my only vice as far as sweets go

Didn't know that anyone drank tea without lots of sugar until I left Oklahoma. Course I didn't know you could buy whiskey in a store until then either. Thought you had to get whiskey from the bootlegger. Very Happy Oh well.

Seeing as I'm English, it's almost a religion to drink tea - the proper stuff & not that 'orrible muck they put in tea bags Yuck
I must get through a gallon a day; all made from Crown Assam leaf tea, brewed for at least five minutes in a proper teapot & drunk from a large mug with two sugars & milk.
At the strength I drink it, my insides are probably better tanned than good leather. Very Happy

I'm a bit like you Mike...can't pass up a nice "cuppa". I use Twinings Tea, although we do grow some nice tea out here in Oz as well. As you say...steeped for 3 - 5 minutes in a tea pot then served in a pre warmed mug...milk, NO sugar. Only use sugar in black tea.

Another tea I enjoy is a good quality Chinese Green Tea. Put the tea leaves in a strainer and run boiling water through them straight into your mug...no milk or sugar. Has a very fine delicate flavour that is very refreshing on a hot afternoon.

You sound like you drink your tea at the same strength as my Mother. In fact, it wouldn't suprise me to find that she chews tea leaves, she has it that strong. Shocked As for the tannin...I'm quite happy to get my dosages of tannin from either tea or red wine...I'm not fussy. Very Happy Laughing

Cheers, Vince

I'm gonna have to try this Sun Tea...sounds like it would be real nice. Now there's a thought...set the jar out first thing in the morning and when you return from the morning hunt your mid morning brew will be ready. Damn, I'm a genius. Laughing
