george20042007, Thanks for noticing. That would go in the bucket as one of my peeves. along with quite a few gun writers.
Meanwhile, back to the 5000 club.

Which, when you think about it.....is still pretty darn good! When you consider the plat form they are shooting from is always in motion.
acctually the USS Missouri set a distance record dureing the Viet Nam war for 30 miles and hitting the objective, that since has been broken.

Bullet designs make a big difference. I shoot SXSP's that are running about 3200 fps out of my .222 and you can watch a vapour trail all the way to the target which is actually the bullet melting down. Kind of cool at long range. A good solid bullet would have to be used. Would be interesting!! Good luck.

Hi,
I just stumbled onto this thread when I remembered measuring a load for a mate of mine a couple of years back. I know the speed was over 5000 fps but I had to reduce it to 4999 fps to get the data from pointblank.
This is the load,
Gun 22-250 AI, custom made is all I can remember, the gunsmith from Florida I believe,
Bullet Sierra #1345
Weight 55 grains
BC 0.279
Primer Federal 210 Match LR
Powder 44grains H414
That is all details I have. I did the shooting, as it was my chrony, I got a three shot group of 0.45 at a range of 67 yards.
Now this is the only gun that he shoots, therefore he is deadly with it and has made some fantastic long range kills with it. The barrel, you will not be surprised to learn, is shot out.
That is all the information I have, but I thought it might be of interest.
John
