Where is the snow? I thought Montana got snow twice this last week and temps were in the teens.

You should bring at least one of those deer in to warm up in case it gets cold again.
I suggest a slow cooker set on high for 5 hours with a cup of water, potatoes and carrots.

That is wonderful Trembles. Is it deer season there at the moment, or do these buggers know when they are safe?

I’m with Paul...do the right thing and warm one of them up...inside, in the slow cooker...or a a spit over the open fire.

A question...can you roast deer successfully? I’ve always heard that deer is too lean to roast and it comes out very dry. Is there a secret to roasting deer meat or do you cut it into steaks and roast it that way for a short time?

if you roast....you need LOTS OF BACON....and/or a larding needle and lard, insert fatty strips in through holes in meat so it gets fat through it....we dont roast alot of it...maybe a shank/knuckle every couple of years...steak and mince is what all our venison gets made into...some mince goes into sausages.

Yes you can. As noted it can get really dry. Pressure Cooker is alot better... but I love deer roasts.

Most deer seasons in western America end around Oct / Nov.

Very nice picture, thanks for sharing. Deer having no horns is not a problem since most of us do not eat horns. All the best...
Gil

Gil, THAT was perfect!
I don't eat the horns but I have been known to use them for knife handles and handgun grips.
Heck, you can always use bones for that too, if the dog doesn't find them first.
