My friend from my navy days is a bit of a collector of old treasures. He called me to get my opinion on the subject rifle. It is in very good condition (NRA standards). It is chambered in 22 Remington Special which apparently is identical to 22 WRF. While uncommon ammo is still available. Does anyine have any experience with this rifle (last made in 1955) or its predcessor the model 12?

I am asking this because I have a 581 and they made a 581S that had a smooth bore - is this a smooth bore? (My guess is that they were used with shot loads)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/..._Model_121
List the 121SB as the smooth bore and the 121 as "Special" Grade. Also confirmed on the Remington website

Good! I just wondered and wanted to be sure - that's why I ask.

I also did some checking online. Seems this is a rare find. He is making an offer and has found some CCI ammo. While it says .22 it is not a .224 bullet but .228 and 45 grains. He has s also checking for the date code. The seller says it is late 1930's. Told him I would buy it if he doesn't.
