Oh size matters Aloys....how much does the wind blow it around? Lycra...is that the stuff they wear in swimming competition? That would do something, I wouldn't wanna watch. Too many bulges of unknown origin. Is that a?.....or is that it?....full disclosure please....how come his isn't?....my my where's his? Camel's nose?

The targets are very small as it is and I have a point on the target that I aim at but when the wind is blowing like that - it is something I am going to have to learn to deal with.

Yep! I am gonna go out and buy me some lead boots and a lycra suit that is at least one size too small and ---- NO!

In talking to the club president I will have lots of time to practice in those 30 mph winds - it is like that all through spring and into the first part of summer here. We have three shoots next month and one is at 9am so that might be before the wind gets up too much. The others are at 5pm when the wind is at its peak. I may do a little work on the trigger but it has never been a problem and I don't want to mess it up because I haven't found anyplace to get replacement parts for this gun. Remington stopped making them in 1980 something. I don't have my shop finished so I can't make the parts myself.
I don't even have my stones unpacked so I will have to use some glass and 1200 grit emery paper to polish it.
Oh well, I am not consciously competing with anyone but me and it did surprise mw to win the times I have shot. I will just keep working on the basics like I always do - breathing, sight picture, target alignment, squeeze and repeat. I will either continue to get better or I will just have fun doing it - or I guess if it stops being fun I could quit. (not my style - I quit only when I get it all right all the time (not often).

I vote for a heavier barrel. This one is 1.062" diameter and threaded into the receiver...

After looking at the rules I found out that any change in the profile of the barrel puts me into the higher class. So, I am going to be using the one I have until I can shoot with it as well as I believe I can.

That is a nice looking Ruger! I love the stock and that barrel is great!

This post created one of those mental itches that just wouldn't go away. I have been trying to recall the name given the shooting technique I was taught as a soldier to deal with an unsteady aim caused by panting etc. Well I was reading a book on rifle shooting written in the 1960's. Low and behold the technique was explained by the writer. He didn't have a name for it either. His explanation and my recollection are basically the same. To deal with self induced swaying of the aim don't fight it but add your own intentional sway. Practise with the same rifle will cause you, mind and body, to correctly anticipate when to squeeze the trigger so the bullet exits the barrel when your aim crosses the intended POA. He went into it deeper, talking about lock time and the importance of having a crisp trigger and relaxed grip etc. Next time I am out at the range I am going to try that with my rifle. BTW it was the way I was taught to target shoot a pistol but with a vertical rise and then controlled fall. I found that with the issue 9mm Browning HP trigger squeeze when the sights just touched the top of the bull gave me excellent results.

Mac! that is what I have been doing. somehow I managed to come up with the technique quite by accident. Now I have to find a way to get that trigger smoothed out and crisper - it wouldn't hurt to have it down to 4 pounds either.
I didn't realize how bad it was until I fired my 3006 the other day. It surprised me when it went off! so I am looking for some usable information on the triggers. I found some and started another thread to see if I could get more.
