Thanks, gang! Recovered the pictures when I got home tonight with some special software. Here is a picture from where the shot was taken from the mountain pasture to the next ridge over, 401 yards at 8700' above sea level.

When I decided to pull the trigger, the elk was broadside and stopped. It must have taken and step and turned away prior to bullet impact which was at a 70-degree angle. Here is where the entry and where we found the bullet. This is why the Hunting Gods smiled on me that morning.

Great job slimjim. There's nothing like a freezer (or two) full of Elk.

KUDOS to YOU SLIM !!!

She must have been a barren cow this last season with no calf which will make her much better on the table ( more tender ) and helps to explain why shee was so healthy. Saw the pic of the bullet you used. Is that one of the solid coppers ???

10spot, yes it is. Barnes has been the leader in this technology for many years. Hornady came out with their GMX copper monolithic bullet a couple of years ago and they have taken off. Their terminal performance is excellent. They are very rugged and expand quickly being full-size after passing through the rib cage. These bullets also track true and I haven't found them to divert off in a different direction after impact. This is a good quality and I needed it for this shot because I had 30 inches of penetration.
