Yup thats exactly the same one I seen at the auction, but now that I think about it, the barrel selector on the right side was missing completely. Occasionally they pop up at auctions around here. heck last week at an auction they had 2 punt guns for sale, one was 2 gauge and the other was 4 gauge. Shocked

I'd love to fire a Punt Gun. Not much use me owning one, but I reckon it would be a real buzz to fire.

Cheers, Vince

Shocked

And I'd like to watch! Called a punt gun for a reason. I'm too light in the Levi's for one of them!

I don't think I would want to try shooting them things, the 4 gauge had a lead ball that weighed 1400grs to 1500grs and it weighed in at 17lbs and could be shoulder fired. Shocked

The 2 gauge was mounted on top of a thick wood platform that had a metal post that anchored the gun to the platform. This particular gun held a lead ball that weighed almost 3500grs. wtf

Of course either one could be shot with shotshell, there was also 6 20lb kegs of black powder that accompanied the 2 gauge. Shocked

Think of getting your seasonal bag limit of ducks with one shot into a flock using that 2 gauge. Very Happy Very Happy

A guy was showing me a gun he called a post gun. Had a really long (like maybe 6ft) barrel and as big around as my arm. Black powder blaster. Said they had to prop it on a fence post to shoot it. Is that the same thing as the punt gun? This guy has a collection of them and even has molds for the shot.

A punt gun is a large shotgun that was used by market hunters during the late 1800s/early 1900s.

that .410 is a nice looking piece forsure. the most practicle combo Ive seen was a .12ga / .222 great gun for wallabies. we can buy a single barreled rossi with 2 barrels one in .22lr and one .410, I would love to see them bring out a .20ga and .223 or 30/30 as that would be just the ducks nuts for my young fella. and I would pinch the 30/30 for bush hunting too.

Hey elvis, Savage used to make them, I had a Mod 24v?????? for a while in the eighties that was 20ga and 222. I dont know if they are still available or not, but it was a great little gun for going after rabbits with the 20 and when the odd fox jumped up at longer range I used the .222. I think they even made them with 30/30 - 20ga. Mine looked somewhat different that the ones in the photos, the barrel selecter was like a small lever in the middle of the main hammer. Gave great service for a few years, then moved onto something else in a moment of weakness.

nice idea Vince but we have a dumb law over here that bans shotguns on DOC land, I could get away with a rifled barrel for the .12ga but dont have the funds to buy one. the powers that b would not allow a chamber inserts cause you could remove it.

Wow Suz,, if indeed your friend has a collection of punt guns, he is sitting on a small fortune depending on the shape they are in. The opening bid for the 4 gauge was $3500.00 and sold for $7800.00 and the opening bid on the 2 gauge was $10,000 and sold for $17,000.00 Shocked

Well he owns a gun shop HERE and has quite a collection of antique guns. After lookin over the video from Pumpkin I can tell you they aren't that huge. Those guns look to be 15ft long or so and this guy's guns are more like 6ft overall. I believe they shoot a single projectile. It's been a while since I was over to his place but I'll have to check and see what the heck they are, maybe he won't mind a photo or two. Anyhow check out his collection of antique rifles on the website, it's interesting.

Suz

Sorry I just noticed he doesn't have the antiques listed...but check out his used custom guns anyhooo, no photos tho.

OK OK OK this is my second edit of this post.....he does have photos and the guns I was talking about are not? antique....I dunno what I'm talkin about...anyway they are bench heavy target rifles, 40 to 60 caliber paper patched. HERE'S one

My third edit of this post....Christ..ok HERE'S what he was telling me about, a Picket gun, and I took that to mean picket (as in fence) post gun. All the female attributes apply here, thank you very much!!
