Does any one have any thoughts on the 22 Hornet?

I personally love it!! It's a quiet little cartridge that has a good amount of punch.

I owned one for a short while. I love the cartridge, I could just never get mine dialed in with a good load. I personally just think it was the gun. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if I got a deal.

I have 2 so far. 1 Ruger77/22H VHZ with a Bushnell scope that has been reamed to KHornet that shoots .75" @ 100yds.
The other is also a Ruger 77/22 H standard that shoots as good.

I have T/C Contender 10" bull barrel pistol and Brno 110 braek open-rifle. I make my own loads with Remington cases, VihtaVuori N-110 powder, Sako 45- and 50gr bullets and LEE Collet dies.

I like the Hornet. Mine is a Ruger 77/.22 Hornet. Sporter weight barrel. I've gotten a squeak over 3000 ft/sec from handloads using the 35 grain Hornady V-Max and best group so far is just under an inch.

Oooohhhh.....you're a sick puppy HJ.
I have thought long and hard about getting a Hornet...or a K Hornet...but figure that a good .223 Remington will do everything a Hornet will plus a little more.
Having said that...the .22 Hornet is a great little cartridge that has been overshadowed a bit by newer .224 sized calibres.

The little 22 Hornet is a great cartridge for more settled areas due to its lower report. I haven't messed with it for years but did have a K Hornet that was exceptionally accurate with proper loads.
One of the major complaints has always been that it isn't as accurate as other cartridges...yes and no. Like most rimmed cartridges (especially 22 LR which is why match shooters segregate their ammo by rim thickness) there is often a problem with rim thickness interfering with consistent head spacing. This of course gives erratic accuracy. The solution for any rimmed, bottle-necked cartridge, as K.W. has found, is to either use collet or neck-sizing dies or adjust your regular sizing dies to allow cases to headspace on the case shoulders rather than relying on the manufacturing variations of rims.

Have the Ruger 77 22H, stainless, laminated. It's box stock except for the VQ sear & spring. Also use the Contender 10" barrel with scope. The Ruger does good out to about 200 yds when loaded with the 35 gr VMax and Lil Gun for a velocity slightly above 3,000 fps. The Contender seems to be a 75 yd combination but, I haven't loaded for it since Jesus Christ was an apprentice carpenter.

Know and understand your bullet diameters and twist rates.
Some older guns use .223 dia. not the common .224
Some newer guns use a 1 in 14" twist barrel that will work with longer bullets like the Ballistic tips.
When using the long bullets you may not be able to feed from the mag.

If you already got two and reloading for them.....................
What is it you want to know about them?

What powders are you using for the 40 gr V-Max? I'm in the process of loading some Hornet for testing.

Chambered221, When I want an oppinion, I ask for them. I find the little Hornet to be alot of fun and with powder, bullet prices going through the roof. Small appetites for powder save me enough to buy extra bullets and primers. And I want others oppinions on this.
Pumpkinslinger, I use WW296 and IMR 4227 for my 40gr Vmax loads. And for those who think the 22Hornet is not accurate because its a rimmed cartridge...........Dont know much do YA?
The Hornet is very accurate and deadly inside 250 yards.
