I've installed a 209 primer kit on my Remington 700 and lost the directions to tear the bolt apart. The bolt is gunked up and won't fire (kids are great).
How do I get the bolt apart. Help please.

Remove the bolt from the rifle. Next grasp the bolt firmly and hook the edge of the bolt (as seen in the following picture) onto something sturdy (I put a penny in a vice and pull against that). It will slide the firing pin assembly slightly out the rear of the bolt exposing a notch. While exposed insert a dime into this slot.

Now the rear of the bolt easily unscrews allowing you to disassemble the bolt.

If you want to disassemble the actual fireing pin and spring you have to use a punch and drive out a pin then unscrew everything. I'd recommend just cleaning the fireing pin with the spring attached (stick it in a jar filled with a cleaning solution then scrub it with a toothbrush). Spray it down with a good film lubricant and re-assemble.

Note: Clean the inside of your bolt handle with a wire brush / jag.

Welcome to HuntingNut wrestlers. Once you've cleaned that bolt mate, grab a beer pull up a stump and sit awhile.

You may be able to clean your bolt without disassembling it. Get a pressure pak can of CRC Brakleen or a can of Carburettor Cleaner and give it a good "hose out", ensuring an extremely thorough oiling afterward.

Disassembly is definitely the best way to go though.

Cheers, Vince

Welcome to the Forum.

Dallan gave good advice. That's the way I have dismounted Remington 700 bolts for years. I remember one time Jon Sundra said he grasped the bolt cocking piece with vise grip pliers to disassemble the bolt. Never read a thing he wrote after that. Take care...
