I use Winchester 209 primers in My T/C Encore 50 cal. I tried Remington Kleenbore but they had allot of blowback and it etched the metal around the flash hole. They also seem to be very corrosive. I would shoot for a couple hours then give the barrel a light cleaning till I got home. In about 2 hours after shooting I started cleaning the gun I noticed light rust on my frame. The blow back from those primers was terrible. Took me 3 hours of disassembling and cleaning to get the frame clean. Tossed the Kleenbore primers in the trash and went back to regular 209 primers.
Has anyone tried out the new 777 primers? I have not seen allot of feedback on them on the forums. I thought about giving them a try but am wary after the Kleenbore fiasco.
I like the regular 209 primers but agree that they leave a ring in the barrel that is annoying but I get nearly zero blowback.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

I have used the Winchester and Remington muzzleloader primers without any problems. The regular primers leave the crud ring in my rifle that makes seating the second and successive rounds harder.

I tried the Winchester 777 primers and didn't really notice any reduction in the "crud" ring after firing.

I would say it all depends on what powder your using?I have a T/C Prohunter and shoot 100grs. of blackhorn and use w209 or cci 209 shotgun primer. The remington 209 primers are supose to be designed for muzzleloaders but their even hotter then what I'm shooting now!If I were using T-7 powder ,pellets or any other subsutute I would try a winchester T-7 or Fiocchi 209 or even a 25 ACP conversion from Precision. These primers are ideal for this stuff because of thier low pressures you need to control the pressures with-in the load. The problem with todays Primers is there way to hot for today's powders pushing the load up past the breach before the ignition and causing inconsistency's in accuracy..

I'm using CCI 209M in a .50 Encore with 100-110 grains of Hodgdon 777 and PowerBelt bullets and haven't noticed any problems. A buddy and I have both shot 1.5" groups at 100 yds with the Encores. I use loose powder, he uses pellets.

Go with the remington muzzleloader primers. They are basically a .410 primer and work well.

I use the Rem Cleenbore primers and loose 777 and haven't had any issues.

Tried several different primers 3 weeks ago. The CCI 209's did well but noticed no difference in the crud ring than the Winchester primers I am using now. Tried a different batch of Kleenbore primer and after 2 shots, gave them to my buddy. Still have not tried the 777 primers. Stores were sold out when I went to pick them up. Will try them at a later date. Muzzle loading season is around the corner and I will stick with my Winchesters for the moment till I find a better solution.
I will have to say tho that 777 loose powder and my Encore is great and easy to clean but I still shoot good ol black powder in my 45 cal Hawkins.
Doesn’t feel right to shoot it any other way.

Very Happy Well I fixed my 209 primer blowback problem. I upgraded to the 25 ACP using small rifle primers. It is wonderfull! ZERO blowback and improved accuracy! Shot 23 rounds though my Encore Sunday and all I had to clean was the bore and plug. I am shooting 90gr 777 fffg with a Hornady 250gr xtp. 1.5" group consistant @ 100yds. I was shooting a 2.5" to 3" group before the conversion. I cant say enough good things about it. The only thing I noticed that I would have to keep and eye on was that the 25 ACP cases corroded easily if not cleaned within a couple days. I toss them in a little soapy water then toss them in the tumbler for 20 minutes or so and they are ready to be re-primed.
If you are having the same problems I have with 209 primers, give this a try, works great for me.

Glenn 1022, also use the .25 acp with small rifle CCI magnum primers. once the .25 case is fired, using 3 30 gr 777 pellets and a .451 230 gr hp(black sabot) in an H&R SS .50 Huntsman, the .25 case MUST be scrubbed clean of any residue before repriming. priming the case with out scrubbing will result in miss fires. BTDT. there is some blow back, just enough to contamate the case, but not enough to clog up things like the 209's do.
