There's an old book called the jeepers bible. The author in it wrote several times of dismantling a engine with a thrown rod, repairing it enough to run (minus the dead cylinder) and get back to civilization. Some pretty cool ideas in it.

The wood linkage above would work for a time... odds are though anyone off a real farm would have some misc steel to fabricate something a little heavier duty... but in a pinch, the 2x4 would certainly work.

I was always taught that a temporary repair had to last for at least a year. A temporary fix for an oil leak is to catch the drip in a can so you can pour it back into the engine. A permanent fix is to catch it in a can where a pump pumps it back into the engine. The next step is to overhaul the engine to prevent the leak.

Rather than a misc piece of steel, a careful and liberal application of #8 fencing wire would almost make that a near permanent fix methinks. Confused Very Happy Very Happy
