Maybe this video will explain a little as far as the dog work goes. Obviously its alot better when.the whole pack is down instead of.just this dog by herself. If youll watch the first 2 1/2 minutes youll see the rabbit twice and the dog trailing.

Then watch this one!! This dog died a few years ago she could really run one! Its only a short clip from a couple years ago but like the above video you see the rabbit and dog trailing it

You see the difference. When everything goes as required, my Hela is not allowed to chase a living hare or rabbit before I shoot... when everything should go as in the book, she should get the rabbit out in the open, then you call or whisle the dog "down", you shoot the rabbit and command the dog to get it.
Now when you can teach that to a beagle, I will fly over and have a look Smile

And I'll be honnest: my Hela is a cesky fousec and she won't act is as required by the book. But on the other hand: she's almost always near me, even in the car laying next to me and she most of the time will do her part of the job, be it for rabbit, hare, duck, faisant, dove or even a roebuck. And I'm almost sure you don't enter my car or my home when she's in and I'm not Smile

But I do know your way of hunting and it's completely diferent from ours. If 1 beagle should enter our hunting party, all the dogs become mad (and not only the dogs).

That way doesnt sound to fun to me lol sounds too much like bird hunting. If you see a rabbit here you and had to stop your dog before you shoot youll never get a chance at the rabbit because its gone. Just shows the difference in how its done in different areas

Thanks Mudcreek, it was good to see a rabbit.
I think you need a dog with longer legs

And Aly, what is the difference with your breed and German Wirehaired Pointer?

A cesky fousec is not so hard, much softer and far better connections boss/dog. When I leave home without her, she's almost crying untill I return.

And don't be mistaken about that soft side, she will kill a wounded roebuck if he would raise and run again.
My previous dog was a Grosse Munsterlander (a black/white longhaired german pointer) and for searching game she was better, maybe a better nose? I will never forget that dog, but the cesky fousec is doing her utmost to help and forget her.

And need a dog with longer legs? A beagle is nice to hunt rabbits in tight cover. They also drive the rabbits so crasy that they come and sit outside the cover to escape the dogs. The old hunter did so years ago. And when the rabbit sat still on the right distance, they would shoot it.
Nowedays we hunt with much larger pointers. When there is a rabbit in tight cover now, they simply ruin the cover...

Hmmm…this post has me thinking hard…is it SPAM or not. A particular product doesn’t appear to be being advertised as such, just how to use an attractant. The post is relevant to hunting, especially for those of us who hunt rabbits, but it still has be thinking…I’ll be watching.
