I know it may be an odd question on reloading, but has anyone got velocity and c.o.l. for factory loaded (Federal?) Nosler 70gn ballistic tip in .243?
I am starting to work up a new load and would like to get a baseline to compare with. At the moment I am getting an av. of 3543 off 41.5gns of Varget with an av. group of .655, .03 off lands, col 2.71. At the moment I am getting nowhere near the velocties of various manual data, for instance over 4600 with 42gns, while I max. at 3578.

Hodgdon site says 70gr. Speer HP max load is 40.5gr Varget with a velocity of 3574 fps. COL 2.625.

A 65 gr V-Max has 3682fps from a max load of 41.0 grains of Varget. COL 2.600.

I do not think I have ever seen data that puts this heavy a bullet over 4000 fps. with Varget, or any other powder that matter.

Embarassed
Now i'm getting data wrong, must be the weather!.
sorry, I meant to say over 3600fps.
If you look attached data, Nosler show 3 powders giving over 3600, including Varget. My max. with 42gns is 3571, that is why i'm trying to find the ballistics of factory ammo, to compare with my data.

I had spoke with the rep from hodgon and another guy from hornady at length on this idea of speed versus terminal balistics, I was told that while speed is good , there is such a thing as too much of a good thing, I had told them while g-hoging, the 75 gr vmaxs were punching a dime to nickle size hole, and then removing the oposite side, they both told me to back down on the speed a bit and then see what happens, in fact the hornady guy told me it would be like a mini-nuke going off...

I've never used the 70gr noslers yet but I do use 55gr nosler btbt's in my 243 bull rifle. I've pushedthem out to 3865fps with no extra pressure. I like them for jacks and tree rats at 200yrds. It totally blows jacks apart when you pop them just behind their long ears. Dave from northern Calif. Cool
