you're right about that .22 Hornet. That explains why magnum primers are bad. I noted that, when everything else remains the same, POI at 100 m is about 4-5 cm lower and the groupes are worse with magnum primers.

Always nice when you discover other people agree with your own findings and even explain you why it happens that way...

really pleased that it is of use to someone, personally I use magnum primers as bought large quantity of them cheaply, the .270 loads call for them with certain powders in some manuals...not specified in others, the .308 seems to not care and using win 748 ball powder it might be a good thing....as for the 7.62x39mm well its an anemic wee round at best of times with velocity being held back by case size,no excess pressure signs so will carry on using them (mind you though it only getting fed subsonic loads now and they do prefer std primers)

"Mysteries And Misconceptions" ....... Great title !!! Scratch

IMHO the primer remains the single most important piece of voodoo in regards to hand-loading.
After a lot of chronograph testing, I've given up on the theory one is better than the other.
The biggest surprise was with so called "match" primers.

To most the term "match" implies a level of consistency !!!
Although I would not go as far as to label them inconsistent, My testing has shown standard primers to be just as good if not better in some circumstances.

Elvis, thanks for sharing. Learned a few things I didn't know, especially about primer seating depth.
