A mate of mine want me to built him a skinning knife for a trade.

So on the weekend, these were what I have done.

We design the look of the knife.

And agreed on this one, so it is built

And done

Next we design the sheath

It gave me an opportunity to use my new stamp

I use tracing wheel to mark out the holes for the stitching

Now it is waiting to be drilled and stitched.
I will do it today

Thanks for looking.

Nice, but tell me that you didn't cut the leg off the missus end table for the handle. Bonk

you have patience and golden hands...
how did you make that stamp?

And personnally I would have prefered a full flat grind instead of such a scandi. And yes: now the blade and cutting edge will be stronger and easier to resharp, but I personnally like the view of a full flat grind more than such a cheap looking scandi. But that's only a personnal choise.

A damn fine job Gelan...you are getting very good at making knives... better than me mate...and your sheath work is magnificent.

For a skinner, I am a little surprised you didn't go for the third pic in your drawings mate. I have always found a nice full curve, a belly if you like, about 2/3 of the way up the blade towards the tip, makes for a easy skinning job. But, the proof of the pudding is in the eating mate...if your mate finds it easy to use, then it is a good design.

How did you get the stamp made mate? Did you make it yourself on the CNC or get it made?

Cheers, Vince

Well, I subscribe to the sayings that the customers are king Smile
Thats my mate wants, so thats what he get.

Aloys, thank goodness that my hands and all other of my appendages are like yours and most people.
If they are trully golden, I'll be in trouble.. Imagine having ornamental appendages.. Shiver..

Oh I made my stamps using CNC, now THAT is a commercial job I do, I actually sell services to make similar stamps/ logo etc.
If interested, send me a PM.
