Hi,

I am about to start reloading my 7mm-08 AI. I have some questions regarding this that I would like some input on.

I need to know what I should trim the cases down to as I have 40 degree AI.

I know the loads as I have this data but I have no data on "trim to length".

I am using;
Fed Cases (7mm-08)
VV N140 Powder
Nosler 140 Ballistic Tips
CCI Benchmark Primers

Rifle is Sako 75 with worther 19" Barrel with 9/14 twist.

If anyone has some data I would really like to know.

Regards
Colin.

Normaly AI's chambers are 0.004 shorter in headspace so your trim length would be that much less. THIS IS A GUESS as I am still looking for the reloading data. It's not in any of the normal spots.

Since the 7MM - 08 used to be (and still is in some cases) a wild-cat you should make a chamber casting to find out where to trim the cases. Unless you know your gun was factory made in the 7MM 08 caliber take the the time to make the chamber casting.

The best way to determine Trim-to Length for any rifle especially a Semi-Wildcat like the 7MM-08 AI is with a Sinclair Chamber Length Gauge. They cost $7 and will tell you exactly what your Max case length will be. Then just subtract .010 and you have your Trim-to Length.

I strongly recommend not using any of the starting loads listed on the link posted !!!
I've crossed referenced some data of calibers I'm familiar with and re-load for. Some of their starting loads are actually max loads in some re-loading manuals.

These loads might be ok for the rifles they were testing in but I recommend seeking other commercial data to start with.

Just as an example; My 7mm08 maxed out at 44.0gr of Varget with a 120gr Nosler BT. I've talked with others that found max to be in the 44.0-44.5gr. range as well.
Nosler and Hodgdon both put the max at 45.0gr.
The data in that link started at 44.0gr and went up from there !!!

I have used that Sinclair tool.........works great !!!

The data in the link is for the 7mm-08, the OP is referring to the 7mm-08 AI (Ackley Improved) Starting at Max 7MM-08 data and working up is the way it is done for the Ackley.

I understand what the OP needs are, I was just concerned about someone using that data in a standard cartridge.
