|
Just thought I'd see if the brothers and sisters up North can give me any advice to be prepared. Tomorrow, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be asking my wife about our friend's son. He is going to grad school at the University of Waterloo in Ontarior, Canada. All his guns are here in the US right now. He spends a lot of time in the wilderness doing water surveys and has requested a Firearms License. My wife is one of his references. Mail is real slow. The RCMP request for interview was dated 24 August, got the letter today, interview has to be completed by tomorrow.
Are there some RCMP question you can think we will be asked that we should be prepared for?
Thanks!

They will want to know if she has known him for three years or more. Than they will ask such questions as:
Is he going through a divorce
Has he recently failed in school ( university)
Is he an agressive person.
Is he going through some financial problems.
Would she agree that they would allow him to have a firearm and that he would be a responsible person with it.
They even call my wife whenever I buy a new toy and ask if she knows and if she agrees.

I presume that you are talking about rifles or shotguns (known as non restricted firearms in Canada).
Handguns are classed as restricted firearms and you must have a good reason to possess such a firearm.
1) Protection of life (almost impossible to get)
2) For work such a a Brinks guard
3) For sport shooting. ( you must belong to an approuved shooting club and you need an autorisation to transport from your house to the club.)
4) You are a genuine firearm collector and you must prouve that you collect rare guns (historical firearms or rare firearm mecanismes) and that you know the history of these firearms.

They asked her questions about his behavior. Had she seen him resolve a conflict violently. Had she seen him behave aggressively, etc. Then reminded her to call 911 if she ever saw a gun being used improperly and that her answers needed to be truthful as there could be a follow-up investigation.

He will as need to belong to a club before he can get a restricted firearm to use.
There are some good clubs around Waterloo.
