I'd say you tuned it right...and you are a very experienced reloader.

It's just not something I'm will to gamble with- read too many horror stories. Esp out here in the CCCP of Commiefornia.

Man that's a nice piece. You got some sweet shooters there sir.

Even though it aint a .38spl (caliber of topic) Laughing

Oh...Sorry. How's this?

S&W Mod 10 with Hogue grips:

Load: 140 grain Remington SJHP over 5.0 grains of W-231.

Oh yeh...:

WWII Japanese bayonet taken by my wife's uncle from an officer when he was in the pacific theater. The "frog" is complete and in good condition.

Sorry...Been to the post office, but I'm back now.

A lot of neat stuff? My family and my wife's family just can't seem to throw anything away and the "junk" just keeps piling up.

Same with my guns. Started buying when I was 18 and have never sold any of them. Each had its purpose of reason to be bought at the time. One problem is a lot of my firearms are old and antiquated. Like my Colt SAA.

I just got done testing 125gr & some 140gr loads for our 642 & 638 snubbies. I tried AA-5, W231 N320 and N350 powders. All worked pretty well but I ended up loading a final batch with 5.1gr N-320 for the 125 gr JHP at 900fps and 5.1 N-320 for the 140 gr at about 875 fps. 6.5 of N-350 pushes the 140 at about 900 fps out of the 642. Out a 6" tube, they go 1060 and 990 respectively. I went as high as 5.5 of N-320 but it had really snappy recoil so I backed it down to help with follow ups in the snubbies. The 6.5 N-350 showed pressure signs in a couple of my revolvers (cratering, metal flow and flat squared primers) so I marked that one as a hot load for heavier frames.

I have read that the XTP bullet is designed for higher velocities. 900fps might be borderline and under some conditions might not give the desired expansion. I think I also read that Hornady makes a version of the XTP specifically for the short bbl revolvers.

SyberShooter, Speer makes Gold Dots designed for short barreled handguns. I don't see any Hornadys that say that.
