Finally! Someone got it, the Scout concept. Ruger nailed it. (they gotta new 45 too!) Nor shure is anyone packaged one, seen some customs and sefl-builts....this thing's nice! Smile

That Rhino revolver has always intreguied me too. No one here has one. And unless it's a 9mm autoloader no one will order one here most likely. I wanna shoot one of them, or myabe not, cuz I might just buy one!

Goooooood issue this month.

Did you notice that there is a recall notice for the Remington "shotgun of the year" both in the same issue?

There were several Remington recalls in the magazine in addition to the shotgun recall. There are ammo recalls. All the best...

Just arrived in the mail yesterday. Looks like I have some reading to do.

My Remy's are Russian. Very Happy

I like the Scout concept. No one I know does, though. I like light, short snout shooters with a big thump. Everyone I knows wants a SOCOM or a modern hunting rifle w/ at least a 22" tube. I dunnow, I really like this concept. Even if it's "only" a .308. and not "enough gun" for hunting. Although, I can't imagine anything walking away from a well placed poke from a .308- esp if yer close.

I think they are charging 2-300$ too much. Deal killer fer me. Build one for a heck lot less than that...woof! 900$ for the logo? Pass. Mad Comon Ruger, at least toss in the glass....kripes!

Stovey, I like the Scout concept too and the Ruger is now on my ever lengthening wish list. I compared prices for similar guns from Remington, Winchester and Savage and find that Ruger's price is very comparable.

Yepper! The Steyr in I think was it .376 or some such is WAY $$$. I would'nt mind the Ruger if I had some disposable income as the Gunsight endorsment makes it unique and sort of collectable.

I really do like the concept though for a field gun- sans that huge mag. 5 round would be puhlenty for me. Same's along the lines of a lever gun. Like say, the Marlin Guide Gun. Short, quick, nice whomp.

I agree with stovepipe and have built various bolt action rifles for a lot less money than a scout rifle hang tag price. To my mind, a scout rifle should be a gas gun, not a bolt action.

The other Remington recalls cover the Model 597 semi-auto rifle and .17 caliber ammo. What's up with that? All the best...

Gil ya mean that .17 recall is still going on? I think I first read about that months ago, no?

Semi-auto scout would be fine if ya can keep the weight down and keep the action humming after the barrel chop. Even the SOCOM scouts are kinda porky w/a 16.5 tube @ 9# sans glass... Nice gun nonetheless to be sure. Seen one (SOCOM 16) opperated on 200y gongs and it was pretty impressive.
I kinda like the classic short tube/lightweight "Cooper Formula". Bolt guns are fun.

Has anyone come up with a decent long-eye relief scope? Most I've found have been for handguns and are fixed power. Seems to me they should have added a scope in the package. I've used a Simmons (cheapo) but it's sure not quick to acquire your sight picture. It also makes a gun front heavy, but if it's made for it, maybe it balances better.

Here are a few Scout scopes. I haven't tried any of these yet.

I have a 1X Nikon on my Win 94 Scout but I'm not sure they make that any more.

That's one sweet rifle Pumpkin! Thanks for the scope scooooop. Interesting you have a Nikon scope on it, that's what I've decided to use from now on. I have a pair of wonderful Nikon scopes, they work, and they're moderately priced. The BDC reticle attracted me at first but the overall scopes are really a pleasure to use.

I didn't see that particular scope on the Nikon site but they have a pair of extended eye relief scopes (in the $300 range)...to high a price for me.

I'll stick with the traditional revolvers, the trigger mechanism looks like a nightmare. Besides I think its Butt ugly. Smile
