Fireball...Why not. I was never far from one of my handguns nomatter where I was in the USSR of C. If it wasn't in my pickup or in my saddle horn bag it was on me...No...I didn't have a CCW the whole 20 years I was stuck in the USSR of C. I just carried.
cdw338...Welcome to this fine sight...Too old?!? Why...You are never to old to carry a handgun. You already stated that your mod 19 has served you will on occasion. I pack a Browning A-bolt .30-06 or a Winchester 94 .30 WCF and my S&W mod 19 with a 2 1/2" barrel when hunting...At 64 I still do. And I'm just a little guy....

In Minnesota when hunting big game you can only carry what would be legal that would be 357 Mag and larger. For small game it would be anything fromm 22 rimfire and larger. Hopefully some day in the near future you will be be able to use a small cal hand gun for camp meat?? And realy the laws are a little ifie on the whole issue . And never could get a strait answear from law enforcement about the what is legal.

And God willing I will be able to fork a saddle at 92 as one of my riding partners is doing...You'll make it...
"Buckmaster"???
Gary...That may be the only good gun regulation that the USSR of C has. They feel you should be able to decide what calibre of handgun is suitable for the particular game you may be hunting...One of these days I need to stop in and get the hunting and fishing regs for my new adopted state...

Well Handloader...you know I just recently picked up the Taurus Judge. I always have carried my SAA in 45LC when hunting whether it be with my rifle or shotgun. The Judge will now be the sidearm of choice as you know it shoots 45LC and/or 410 shot shells. I like this combination because of the snakes I run into, especially during Dove season. So far, everything I've put thru it has impressed me. I'm looking forward to the up coming Dove season. I might just try a day alone with the Judge. Someone planted that thought in my head. In my own tests, I see it has the range to get the job done.
Keep it coming...

For a year or two I carried a .357 Mag revolver. Then I got smart and left the weight at home (or in the truck/trailer). Its just much easier to carry additional ammo for the rifle.
No big bears in Colorado. and in fact in 25 years of elk hunting and wandering Colorado mountians I have never seen a black, either. Or a lion. Worst problem has been two-legged critters.

My Glock 23 is with me all the time, Bowhunting, small game hunting, Rifle hunting, etc.. I've never had to use it yet but i'm so used to it like it's not even there.

Always have handgun on my person in the Ginky Weeds! Mostly my Glock G20 10mm.
When I'm hand gun hunting I still have a back up hand gun with me.

Carry my Colt Python .357 some of the time, Tarus 9mm occasionally and do without the rest of the time. Only really needed one once and that was in camp on public lands in California about 25 years ago.
Several dudes drove up in a pick up, got out and started asking my two buddies about "looking for their dogs". I was in the tent at the time and noticed them looking around a lot and especially at the tree where our rifles were propped near the tent. I stepped out of the tent with the .357 on my hip, placing myself between them and the rifles and they suddenly decided to look elsewhere for their "dogs". All I had to do was politely stand there and munch on my candy bar.
We found out later that there were other hunters in the same area that had been robbed by similar guys a few days previously. I now hunt primarily on private land in Arkansas and when I carry the .357 it usually is in warm weather and it has one or two snake loads which I have used occasionally. Apparently, legless snakes are not as easily discouraged as their two legged brothers.

In MN, it is legal to carry a handgun while hunting in the following cases:
1) you are NOT bow hunting. you CANNOT carry a handgun while Bow Hunting
2) It is in a caliber legal to hunt with
3) you have a Permit to Carry a Pistol and another gun which is legal to hunt with.
With a Permit to Carry, you can even carry in the State parks here per the DNR.

In Michigan, You can carry a handgun hunting(in plain view) as long as you are of legal age to handgun hunt, have a valid hunting license for the game being persued. No special permits required, unless carrying concealed.
