I am really wary of the validity of some of the stories I see in these obscure publications...any truth to the following rumour?

Well, doesn't sound like he actually gave the order in such words. Just a claim that new wind power regulations could result in more bird deaths including Bald Eagles.

On a related matter, I saw two Bald Eagles in the wild during last week's CO Pronghorn hunt. Also, drove through the largest wind farm I ever saw in KS - it took over 20 miles to drive through it. All the red night lights were flashing in sync. Some major wind generation but they still have to have a fossil-fueled energy plant idling in reserve in case the wind stops blowing. Very expensive.

Drive through during the winter, you will see tons of them. They migrate down and winter in Utah, CO etc. I've seen 11 all eating off the same dead cow. People think they are rare, but really they aren't... they just don't live in the continental USA during the peak summer recreation times. Come in the winter, you can see lots of them.

Pretty un-impressive, lazy bird when sitting on the side of the road chewing on roadkill. Golden Eagles though... very mean. Those things can take down a deer and live in my state year around.

I just Googled the Golden Eagle...WOW, they are a very majestic capable looking bird, not unlike, and very similar to, the Australian Wedge Tail Eagle...beautiful.
