I'm using a moly coated bullet in .243. It's a 70 grn Speer HP MHP in front of 39.5 grains of Hodgdon Varget & CCI 200 LR primer. It prints 1.5 inches at 200 yards. Don't know the velocity or penatration info. Did take a coyote at close to 300 yards, an instant kill. Didn't find the bullet though.

Hi George...I'm going to try a similar load in my rifle. I'll guess around 3200fps using Varget. The difference should be about 2.3" high at 100yds for a 200 zero and about 6" low at 300yds. I'll verify with IMR-4064 which is very close to Varget . IMR- 4064 is my standard powder with smaller than '06 case size (.243,.308,.300SAV,.257 etc).

Also, you didn't mention what rifle but 1.5" at 200yds is decent in my book.

My barrel is a 24" 12 shallow groove moly lightweight, so the use of moly bullets will be interesting. I'll let you know the results.

I use the 75 gr molly coated Hornady A Max in my 22-250-AI crow gun. However I am using H4831SC at about 3,000 fps. I found that it is not necessary to push the heavy 224 bullets hard, just get them to about 3,000 and let the ballistics take care of the rest. The 75-80 gr bullets are deadly on most anything, including Deer, out to about 800 yards.

Have a long time friend that uses a fast twist 22-250 and the 75s on Deer in a big peanut field complex. He has a depredating permit for 76 deer a year. He fills the limit and has never taken more than one shot on any deer, out to and including 800 yards, according to his partner and he. The 800 yard shot was center chest and the bullet traveled the full length of the deer, even at 800. The deer did not take a step, just hit the ground.

He is an excellent shot, uses a range finder and the complex field has three sets of range markers in each field. He is not hunting, he is reducing crop damage.
