I have been considering what gun to use for my CCW test. I had planned to get a Ruger LCR 38 but had not made the purchase yet and the class was today... I looked in the gun safe and decided to take the .380 Makarov I bought several years ago but have never used much. We had the standard 10 shots at 5-7-10 yard 30 round qualification course on a B-27 target. 21 hits on target was required to pass.... I made it. Nobody touched me on the shoulder while I was shooting...

Not my picture but this is the same model.

Isn't their such a rule saying that when your results are better than best, it's too dangerous to allow you to carry?

When I require such a target, I think I have to take my Black&Decker, but I still have to figure it out how to overcome the distance, my arms and my drills are a little short to reach even the 5 yards...

I'm not familiar with this (short) distances, nor are we allowed to use such a target (only police is allowed to practise on human silhouets... and we are even not allowed to practise on police Smile ) but that 's a groupe with a handgun I can only dream of. Welldone!

Very nice Dawgdad.

Here we were required to shoot 20 round of revolver and 20 rounds of semi-auto. A total of 40 rounds at 7 yards.

I chose my S&W Model 19 and my Colt 1911.

The instructor had the Ruger lCR I have been looking to buy. I loaded it with Golden Saber +P 38 and shot five shots at 5-7 and 10 yards too. It was not as tight as this one but I liked how it shot. It is very light and easy to conceal and is still controllable with carry ammo.

I guess I had that target too. The 9's are all from the last five shots. I will say that dumping 15 rounds of 125 grain+P in a 13 ounce pistol was more recoil than the 95 gran FMJ in the .380. I was shooting about 7 seconds for the five shots. The first cylinder I fired at 5 yards, the first three shots went into one hole in the X ring - I actually aimed a little left because I did not see a the bullet holes...

I still think I will pursue getting the model 5402 Ruger LCR with the Crimson Trace grips. We will see how good the bonus is this year.

"COM-Bloc" firearms.... WORK!!!!! They are made to GO BANG! and do with a moderate level of accuracy. Folks here in the "West" do not realize just how good the Mil-Surp. firearms are. Especially the WWII to about the 1960's/1970's. I LOVE my PA-63; Hungarian clone of the PP/PPK series, and my dad loves his "Mak" which is just like yours it seems. I also really enjoy my M1895Nagant revolver. FUN!!!!! Ammo is tricky to find on occasion but I have the die set and a "correct crimp die" for it. Even got more brass coming from Texas for it.

He made a head shot on a cottontail out about 30 to 40 yards after the first round went a bit high. Made him a believer in the "Mak" platform.
