I am going to Parry Sound Coast Guard Base as the GS-06 Storesman in the supply section. My new boss keeps referring to my position as the senior storesman for whatever reason. I don't know who is right( well I do,he (the boss) is always right)) lol. I am happy about it and I may even get the chance to get enough hours in to finish my Limited Masters Papers. God willing!

Parry Sound is a great location. With Georgian Bay on your doorstep I predict a gradual accumulation of assorted fishing gear lol. I started my CG career in the Central Region at the HQ's which at the time was at 1 Younge Sreet in Toronto. I spent a year in Prescott. Good luck in the move and the new job.

Sounds like you are going to have a good time at your new post mate. Fishing eh...well, that's another form of hunting in my book...as I've always said..."Time what's not spent hunting or fishing is time wasted".

Enjoy your new post mate.

Cheers, Vince

I got called yesterday by the big cheese and I have a report date of March 5th. The paperwork will probably be back by this coming week and we can plan on the house hunting trip etc to happen within a couple of weeks. Its all good. And Vince, the wild turkey hunting is reputed to be very good in the area. The coyote population will definitely be in decline when I get there.

BONUS mate. I assume that there is a season for turkey hunting, but is coyote hunting open slather like it is down south?

Cheers, Vince

Most of the coyotes in ontario are a hybrid or moving that way. They have interbred with the red wolves that are indigenous to the eastern part of n america. So they are larger and have taken on wolf traits so they are somewhat more difficult to hunt as opposed to the western coyotes but then again it is only a matter of learning the techniques of hunting them from knowledgible local guys/gals. There is a whole lot more bush and forest in the east as opposed to the open west. There is a spring turkey hunting season and also a fall season. The species of wild turkey in ontario is the eastern. Out west and south you get osceola (florida), merriams, eastern, rio grande, goulds, ocellated which are on the Mexican yukatan peninsula). And they say there are also some sort of hybrids down in the states.

Yeah you can get some impressive tail fans and spurs on the feet. My first turkey was a 19.5lb eastern subspecies with 1 3/4"and 1 5/8" spurs and a beautiful fan. I want to go for a grand slam in turkeys.
