Well Gentlemen,

You all helped me with the selection of my first hunting rifle. I've read pages and pages of various forum topics. Now its time to tell you that I'm heading out for my first hunt.
Unfortunatly my Buddy can't make it now but that is not going to stop me. I've made a few friends where my hunting grounds are and I'm pretty sure I'll pick up a partner.
Im leaving next thursday for 4 or 5 days. I'll check back and let you all know how I made out.

Rick

I forgot to mention what i was hunting. Heading up to my property in the Cariboo (Central British Columbia). I failed in my atempt for a moose draw so I'll be out looking for Mule deer. The rifle I finally decided on was a Tikka T3 Lite in a 300 Win Mag.

IF this is your first time with the gun, maybe you ought to practice a bit more before hunting with it.

A 300 Win Mag in a light weight Tikka is going to kill the shoulder Shocked

Good luck Rick...enjoy your hunt mate, although there is not doubt in my mind that you will, especially the excitement.

As Gelan says mate, make sure you are proficient with your new rifle...and check zero before going out "live".

Bring back a nice deer mate...and LOTS of pics.

Cheers, Vince

I"ve been at the range for the last 10 months practicing. I have it Zeroed for 200 yds and have been shooting some nice groups. I was working on a hand load and then my buddy got real busy and i had to make a switch to factory ammo. I went with Hornady ammo. I was working on a 165gr SST bullit when my hand loading stalled so thats what i bought. I shot 3 boxes thru my 300 and was quite impressed with the accuracy.
I think I'm ready.

mate if you have been practicing for 10 months, you definitely are ready.

so get out there and as stovie said, "make gut piles"

enjoy the hunting mate, its one of those thing that is built into our instinct,
no matter how modern society tries to suppress it.

Well Guys & Suz

I was ready but apparently the deer weren't. Seen 3 nice moose but no draw. I'll be doing a couple more hunts with a buddy so we'll see what happens. I had a good time, found a couple of good spots close to my home base.
Keep ya all posted

Rick
