Caribou and Reindeer - rumour has it that they are one and the same.
I've got this head hanging on the wall - it came with the house and I reckon that it is a Caribou but people are telling me different.
If you've got any good pics of either species, can you post it? I only need to see the neck upwards as this is mounted on the wall and the rest of it was eaten long ago!
When the sun comes up I'll take a picture of it and get it posted.
Thanks
D

The CARIBOU live in the artic tundra, mountain tundra, and northern forests of North America, Russia, and Scandinavia. The world population is only about 5 million. In Europe caribou are called reindeer, but in Alaska and Canada only the domestic forms are called reindeer. All caribou and reindeer throughout the world are considered to be the same species, but there are 7 subspecies: Barrenground, Svalbard, European, Finnish forest reindeer, Greenland, Woodland, and Peary. Alaska has only the barren-ground subspecies, but in Canada the barren-ground, Woodland, and Peary subspecies are found. The caribou found on the Slate Islands in Terrace Bay, are Woodland caribou. |
