You can also find reload data at www.hodgdon.com.

I've had good success with my .50 Encore using PowerBelt bullets over 100-110 grains of Hodgdon 777 loose powder. My buddy uses two 50 grain pellets. We've both gotten 1.5" groups at 100 yards.

I use the Jim Shocky stuff; it comes in loose powder form or pellets and I find the pellets most convenient. It's not supposed to foul the bore much and it lives up to it's advertising unlike many products. I didn't clean all season and no problem with fouling even after all the practice shooting I did.

Buy yourself a brass powder measure and horn, they are not that expensive. 2 years ago I did tests weighing the powder of BP, 777, Pyrodex RS verses volume which is what BP and it's substitutes are based on.

Hodgdon TRIPLE SEVEN Powder
Triple 777 72.5grs.of Volume-metric Black powder measure, actual weight on scale 59.0 grs.

Triple 777 80.0grs.of Volume-metric Black powder measure, actual weight on scale 64.0 grs.

Triple 777 90.0grs.of Volume-metric Black powder measure, actual weight on scale 71.2 grs.

Triple 777 100.0grs.of Volume-metric Black powder measure, actual weight on scale 80.0 grs.

Triple 777 110.0grs.of Volume-metric Black powder measure, actual weight on scale 88.4 grs.

Triple 777 120.0grs.of Volume-metric Black powder measure, actual weight on scale 97.5 grs.

Triple 777 125.0grs.of Volume-metric Black powder measure, actual weight on scale 99.0 grs.

Pyrodex RS Various Charges vs Actual Weights
Pyrodex RS 72.5grs.of Volume-metric Black powder measure, actual weight on scale 50.0 grs.
Pyrodex RS 80.0grs.of Volume-metric Black powder measure, actual weight on scale 58.5 grs.
Pyrodex RS 90.0grs.of Volume-metric Black powder measure, actual weight on scale 67.8 grs.
Pyrodex RS 100.0grs.of Volume-metric Black powder measure, actual weight on scale 70.0 grs.
Pyrodex RS 110.0grs.of Volume-metric Black powder measure, actual weight on scale 81.5 grs.
Pyrodex RS 120.0grs.of Volume-metric Black powder measure, actual weight on scale 87.9 grs.
Pyrodex RS 125.0grs.of Volume-metric Black powder measure, actual weight on scale 93.1 grs.

Hodgdon Pyrodex Pellets 50 pellet count box net wt. 4.7 oz / 132.7 grams

45cal. / 50 grs. Equivalent for In-Line Rifles
50 gr. Pellet actual weight on scale was 40.8 to 42.3grs
Pellet average weight on scale was
41.5889 x 2pellets = 83.1778
41.5889 x 3pellets = 124.7667

As you can see, shooting "loose" powder is more economical than pellets. I cast my own bullets for my ML and have different molds in various weights and once I get the proper (holy grail) for the load, I make a dispenser from a used cartridge case ( 45-70 and solder handle on) and trim as necessary to the right amount my gun shoots.

One more thing that can't be emphasized enough - black powder substitutes are to only be used on a volumetric basis when compared to "real" black powder. In other words, your substitute (Triple 7, Pyrodex and etc.) should be measured on the basis of the amount of space it takes to hold a specific charge of black powder. For instance, if you are wanting the equivalent of 90 grains of black powder, set your measure for that amount and use that for your loads with the substitutes. The substitutes will not weigh that much since they are bulkier than black powder, but because of the higher energy release will reach the same velocities (and often a bit higher) at black powder pressure levels.

Hope this doesn't confuse you. Have fun and be safe!

Yup, thats why each of my above statements contains Volume-metric .

thats the thing I love about this site. no matter what the problem there is bound to be some fellas or fallessess who will know the way to fix it or point you in the right direction to do so.
I still triple check any load data that is being used even for my old smoke pipe that Ive loaded ammo for for 20 years.
my Hodgdon complimentary manual has good info on pyrodex and contains those same warnings and a chart showing comparative weights for the same volume. the shotgun loads look like being super simple to load and sure have low low pressures!!
