Here's how I see it: Small game small bullit. Dont expect to drill deep through rock with a lil bit. Know yer limitations. No replacement for shot displacement.

Ima fan of penetration. Cant kill what ya cant reach. Lil speedy stuff makes a big shallow hole and scubbs engery way fast. Heavier slower stuff catches up pretty quick and past a certain point retains WAY more poop. Numbers on paper mean diddly. Ask Elmer.

Either or it's all good if you hit a vital...regardless of what ya use, make it count.

I agree that .223 may not be the best deer gun in the world but to be honest, I killed my first buck with a .222 remington. I was only about 30 yards away and hit him in the heart which helps but none the less I killed him. I was 13 or 14 i believe at the time. I later bought that .222 from a friend. I use a big 7 to kill deer with and know when I point it at a deer it will die but If I had no other gun I would be out there killing them with my .222.
