Well Ive got her oiled up, boxed up and ready to ship. Next thing is deciding what I want to get done? Leave it in 7.62X39 and have them mount me a nice new Krieger .308" bore diameter semi heavy barrel chambered in 7.62X39, or have them redo her in 6.5 Grendel???
What say you gentle folks???

How old of a mini-30 is it? Ruger in the last two years went through a redesign of the mini-14/30 series and I've read reports that accuracy has improved greatly. My older mini-14 was a 5 moa unit. With the right ammo and barrel weight I got it down to 2.5 moa. The new Ruger units are reporting around 1.5 MOA. I don't think a special built one to shoot much better than that. My suggestion is to sell the gun you have, buy a new mini-30. Then if you still want a 6.5mm, use the money you saved trying to redo your original mini-30 to build an AR to suit your needs. That's what I sorta did, but I didn't replace the mini-14 with a duplicate. I bought an AR and then built a longe-range AR for around $1200 that is shooting less than 1/2 moa.

I am curious to see what the improvement will be. I have heard you cannot make a silk purse out of a sows ear...

grendel may have a bit more punch but both are good hog loads.

Admittedly I am biased against the Rugers as I have never had one that would shoot to my liking.

is 6.5 grendel the 6.8spc??? because they mini 14 comes out in that now, I like the 6.8 being a .270 man. Ive seen what good 130grn pills will do and the 110s are to hot in the big case but should be primo at lower velocity, I see barnes do a 85 grn and that just has to be the ducks nuts, its a super fast handling rifle with a .243 type load and you can poke a heavier 130 in in the scrub.the 7.62 is ok but I feel the 6.8 will have longer legs and be a better bet at range.

good suggestion, Elvis. Though you can't get ammo any cheaper than 7.62x39.

after seeing cases with 4-5mm sticking out the front after fireing (it must have been folded back inside neck and blew out with projectile) I am very wary of el cheapo ammo for this calibre. that was China Sport brand.

This mini30 was purchased the first year production in 1986. Its was purchased by my older Brother and left to me when he passed. It goes no place. No the 6.8 SPC is not the 6.5Grendal. the Grendal is more powerful, necking down the 7.62x39 case to use 6.5 bullets, Its very accurate and produces more power at long distance than the parent cartridge.
Im gonna proly turn it to 6.5grendal with a .750" barrel and adjustable gas system.
As far as makeing a silk purse from a sows ear goes, Ive held in my hands and shot a Mini 30 customized by these folks. It shoots a .308" Sierra 125gr bullet from its original 7.62X39 case into 3/4" or better.

Accuract Systems looks like a company with high quality products. Give us some pictures when you are done.

Spot on Elvis

it is the one in the Middle with a .308 and a .223 on either side.

It is spelled Grendel like the creature from the Song of Roland story Alexander arms also has the .50 Beowulf cartridge keeping that theme. That is like a SW 500 case with a rim to work in an AR bolt.

This is the photo of the options Im choosing for my Mini30. Krieger barrel, fancy stock, 3 pound 2 stage trigger, target crown, adjustable gas block chambered in 6.5 Grendel.
I like the 7.62X39 ok Fnuser, just want something every tom, dick and harry down to the range dont have! A Mini 6.5Grendel.

Looks great! You are going to have to post the result of the improvement.

I get that too, so many calibers, not enough days. I hope I didn't sound critical, If anything I am guilty of searching beyond chocolate and vanilla also. if that is as accurate as it looks it has got to be fun.
