Here is a link to some excellent photos of some of the damage after hurricane Irene hit Vermont. Flooding in mountainous areas is shockingly powerful.

Thanks Marty....I don't wanna live near the river here anymore. Rivers rise, trees fall, hills slide, the wind blows...you just can't escape Mother Nature. When you look over those pictures I pause at each one wondering how long it's going to take to clean that one up. Boggling!!

Rte 2 in MA (between Florida MA and Charlemont) is "closed indefinitely" -didn't even make the photos.
If the damage wasn't so extensive - statewide - the roads would be passable within a couple of weeks. Those Army corps of engineers bulldozers are huge and really get the job done. If you are familiar with the geography of Vermont, you will be amazed reading the photo descriptions. These shots are from towns all over the state.

Yep, I'm having a bit of deja vu looking at all those.
Drive on the other side of the road and throw in a few gum trees, that was Queensland 7 months ago.
Good luck with it guys.

If the money spent killing each other's bad guys around the world could be used instead to clean up the messes from world wide natural distruction.....and we'd probably end up liking each other in the end. Obamies really could rule the world if done that way. Like Superman to the rescue, fighting evil natural distruction, for truth and justice and the American way!

That looks like what happened round here in November '09 but on a massive scale.
We had 12.4" of rain in six hours & several towns took a beating....

Riverbottom life...risk and reward.
Man- my heart goes out to them folk.
That old covered bridge survived! Not a lot of them left!
