Okay there is a new chambering on the offering tray.
300 AAC Blackout, which is literally a hair split different from 300 whisper or 300 fireball or 300-221 etc.
Admittedly there is differences between these designated cartridges, but the differences are usually down to thousandth of inch.
The good news is that the chambering has been submitted to SAAMI and thus may be standardized and mass produced.
The chambering is also an open design or more aptly described by someone "the Linux version" of 300 Whisper,
where there will be no royalty cost for manufacturer to produce and stamp 300 Blackout on their barrel.
Remington reportedly has made factory loadings for this at less than $12 a carton.
AAC even posted pdfs for loads, trajectory and energy for different loadings.
As user of 300 Whisper, I am glad that someone (in this case AAC) to take this initiative.
Legalese aside, the 300 Blackout is more or less the same as 300 Whisper.

Remington keeps expanding their AR line. Maybe they will step forward.

i believe that the chambering will probably be a little "looser" then a custom chamber to accommodate different brands of ammo. hopefully it wont effect accuracy but who knows.

The neck IS looser to provide reliable chambering for cases made from 223 brass without neck reaming.
I have a few prints of the cartridges, I will post later.

Larr
What load are you using for the deer?
Super-sonic or sub-sonics?
Here I use subsonics for goats and pigs, nice and deadly.
My current load is AR2205 plus as casted Lee c309-200-R lubed with LLA, no gas check.
Nice and deadly to 100 meters, maybe more but I have never try to shot beyond that.

I'm using subsonic loads. 9.0 grs. of aa#9 200gr sierra gameking, and rem 7 1/2 primers. should be good to 150 yds max. Ive tried 208 gr. hornady amax in front of 9.1 grs. of aa#9 but they wouldn't expand much at all on whitetails. haven't tried the 200's on whitetail yet,but i shot them through milk jugs filled with water and they expand twice as much as the 208's.

Thats interesting Larr!
It must have been a different batch of Hornady A-Max to mine!
Try as I may, at subsonics, I NEVER get any expansion EVER!!
Neither shot to Water jugs, Phone books, Mud, Sand banks, Pine planks and Real animal flesh!!
Are you sure yours expand at subsonics?

I think Vince is on to something there. Trajectory wise there is no difference between a round nose bullet and a very high BC bullet at those velocities and distance. Run them through PointBlank and see.

if i get a chance this weekend i will shoot a few through some milkjugs with water. i will use the 208's and the 200's and take some pics. the 208's i tried on deer and not the milkjugs, our season is over today and i wont be able to go today because work calls. its snowing here this morning, hopefully it will stop so i can go shooting tomorrow. i am considering cast bullets and would like to try some and see how they perform. any ideas on which ones i should try? i cant shoot anything over 210 grains because of the twist of my barrel. when i finish my bolt gun it will have a 1-8 twist and should stabilize up to 240 grains.
