|
Hey Guys:
I live in Perth Western Australia. I've been shooting and reloading the 30/06 for about 20 years and I've been using Nosler Solid base Ballistic tip 150 grain projectiles. I have run out of these and although I can buy some more I would like to try something different. I have always fancied the Remington Core Lokt from what Jack O'connor wrote about them and my son recently bought a packet of 150 gn Core Lokt-Ultra Bond for me to try. I've loaded up some trial loads stating 10% low and going up 2 grains at a time but I haven't had a chance to try them at the range yet.
Has any reader used them on game, and if so how do you rate them for performance?
What game have you used them on?

Welcome to our camp fire. Grab one of Vince's beers (your closer to him then me) pull up a stump and enjoy.
My only experience with Remington Cor-Loct is 170 grain for the .30-30. Every deer I put down and was able to retreive the bullet impressed me. every one was an almost perfect mushroom with no jacket seperation.
But...Some one will be along soon to give you what you need for the .30-06. It's the week end over here and it gets a bit slow, but Monday......

Thommo, welcome to HuntingNut! I missed that this was your first post.
Of the legacy bullets, I've heard good performance reports from CoreLokt. I feel bullet technology has improved significantly in the last 20 years. I prefer to use the newer technology even with the added cost.
You mentioned you move up powder loads in 2 grain increments. In calibers with the case size of a .30-06, I find steps in 0.5 grain increments show significant differences. You may be missing your "sweet" pot with 2 grain steps.

Gidday Thommo. Welcome aboard mate...as Bushy said, grab a beer...choice of XXXX, Hahn Premium and Swan there...pull up a stump and relax. Whereabouts are you in the land of the sandgroper?
There are any number of 30 ort-six shooters here mate, so someone will be able to give you good advice on the Core Lokt bullets. I use Remington 90gn SP in my .243 and find they are a great bullet on any game that is silly enough to stick its head up in front of me.
What is your intended game mate...roos, camels, donkeys, pigs?
I agree with the comment Slim made mate...2 grain increments is a big jump when doing load development. Give some consideration to using the OCW method (its a brilliant method), or reduce your increments to no more than .5 grain steps. You might just be surprised at where you find the "sweet spot" for your rifle.
Cheers, Vince
