We have a new family in our neighborhood some where. My daughter saw a small fox about the size of a cat come out of my garden about a week ago. The neighbor has seen tracks in his garden to. I was seeing tracks in my garden but just figured that my dogs were helping themselves to a snack. Last night I was on the front porch about 11 pm when I thought I heard something that sounded like a bark. I was real still and after a few minutes it came again and again. I could just barely see something across the road at the edge of where the light reached. It paced back and forth for a few minutes then disappeared into the grass. When I finally move to go in the house it started to bark again so I barked back. To my surprise it answered and came out on the road in front of the house right into the 120 watt flood lights. There was no question this time that it was a fox, but not the little bugger, it was a full grown adult. We barked back and forth for about 20 minutes before it finally left. I was amazed that it stayed around that long and didn't seem afraid of me. That is the first time I ever heard a fox bark, I didn't even realize they did bark. I still don't know what they are doing cruising through the gardens.

They are probably eating insects and slugs.
Maybe birds going after worms...

Per Wikipedia...

"Although classified as a carnivore, red foxes are omnivorous and are highly opportunistic. Prey can range in size from 0.5 cm insects to 150 cm red-crowned cranes. The majority of their diet consists of invertebrates, such as insects, mollusks, earthworms and crayfish. They also eat plant material, especially blackberries, apples, plums, sunflower seeds, and other fruit. Common vertebrate prey includes rodents (such as mice and voles), rabbits, birds, eggs, amphibians, small reptiles and fish."

Don't forget the odd cat that strays out at night mate.

If they start messing with the pets there could be a problem.

On some farms here we shoot them & on others we let them be.

The former are those with sheep & hens & the latter almost always dairy & arable farms.
As one of the farmers said: "My cows eat grass, rabbits eat grass & foxes eat rabbits - I like foxes."
