Vince, is there an understandable reason why in the Australian Army some hats have the right flap up and others the left?

Okay, Bushy, we gotta work on this.
My daughter is going cowgirl on me (no complaints from me!). She bought a "BullHide" hat.
Liston now, SOFT, hat. Maybe goretex or equivilent with some type of lining and wide rim?
Bushy, getting sometimes just sucks, can't hear anything! Maybe with the new Health care system YOU can pay for my hearing aids!

Didn't want to highjack the thread but, Bushy, I expected some foul language. You are correct, sir, it is not funny. It is a very sad day in this great country!

I personally wear on a day to day basis, and yes some think I got it from drinking too much Miller Lite cause they are dumb and don't know NASCAR. I never drank Miller Lite in my life.
Can you guys guess what driver I root for?

Slouch hat in Australia
The slouch hat was first worn by military forces in Australia in 1885 when the newly created Victorian Mounted Rifles wore the hat as part of their khaki uniform.
On 22 December 1890, the military commanders of the then separate Australian Colonies prior to the Federation of Australia met to discuss the introduction of the khaki uniform throughout Australia. They agreed that all Australian Forces with the exception of the Artillery would wear the slouch hat. It was to be looped up on one side — Victoria and Tasmania on the right and the other colonies (later states) on the left. This was done so that rifles could be held at the slope without damaging the brim. |
I wasn't sure of dates, but I knew the reason for the folded brim. Having said that...I learned something...I didn't realise that some States folded up a different side...well there ya go...ya learn something new everyday.
Cheers, Vince

So this is because of how the rifle is carried and not how it is held when they shoot. Then I understand. I saw different types of Australian hats, some looped left others on the right. I've been told it was for shooting but I couldn't believe that in the Aussie Army (AA?) soldier were sorted out being left or right just to give them a hat... on the other hand: on the screen I've seen them doing other strange stuff (like running trough a bullet rain just to plant a little flag on so called ennemy territory).
Thanks Vince. Love to be on a forum where nuts become a little nutter every day
