I like the 9, it's easy to shoot and will stone kill ya dead as fast as a .40 when placed correctly. (again, nuttin worng with a .40)

It's also available EVERYWHERE. Just like the ACP.

I gotta 2" .357 I shoot .38+p in. Everyone poo-poo's the little roller, till they see it shot. And I've yet to get a volunteer to step up and find out how 'weak' it is. I grab that roller everytime a door slams. Peewee is never far from me. So- yes,I am nuts. Very Happy

I'm getting back into auto's as the classes I want to take to get certified don't allow rollers. Darn.

Like I said, shoot what ya like and hit what ya shoot.

I carry a "roller" quite often. It's a Model 19 S&W 2 1/2". I don't mess around either. It's loaded with 140 grain SJHP in magnum loads.

I still don't feel undergunned when I carry my M43 Firestar...

Ah, a Model 66...very nice Bushy.

I hope you don't feed it a steady diet of magnum loads mate...my Mod 19 started to show considerable erosion/cutting of the top strap from magnum loads.

Cheers, Vince

Sorry Vince...But it is a Model 19 Nickel plated. And if you stay away from the 125 grain bullets you will eliminate, or slow it down, the erosion of the top strap. 140 grain or better. And yes...It gets a steady diet of magnum rounds. I'm kinda against firing .38 Specials in the longer cylinder of .357 magnums...

Sorry mate.

I must admit, I did favour the 125gn pills and hot Magnum loads...although I also used 155gn FMJ boolits. I eventually decided that the best option was to up size, so I bought myself a Mod 586 L Frame.

Like you, I never fired .38 Specials out of mine either. I figure if I wanted to shoot .38 Specials, I would have bought a Mod 10 or 14.

Cheers, Vince

OK fellers, what are your favorite defensive loads for the .38 Special? I have two, a S&W Victory Model and a S&W 36. Also looking hard at the new Ruger LCR. I think I'll stick to cast bullet loads in the Victory and save it for occasional plinking. For the other I'm going to load up some of the Speer 135 grain Gold Dot HPs.

Favorite defence load for .38 Special: 5.0 grains of W-231 under a 140 grain SJHP. House rounds...

158gr +P SCW or FMJ FP.

The hood-rats out here are pretty large around and wear lots of clothing layers as a carry over from jail as a form of home-made 'shank protection'.

I like the .38sp round for indoors in my 2", 5-shot .357m revolver as the .357m tends to go through too many walls and stuff.

I've also found carbon-build up in my .357 chambers is really easy to get out using a scrapped, dry .40 or .45 brush.

YMMV!

My lil "9 mm" Very Happy Just a hoot to shoot and makes the 38sp a fun and snappy little round. I have about a thousand or so 38sp cases so that's what I load. This lil guy goes with everywhere and gets shot more than anything. It's just plain fun tearing into SEB's and multiple targets w/ it.

Stovie, looking at that stubby Taurus of yours give me a feel of deep loss..

My gun were deemed too dangerous by the great wisdom of the government of this land of Oz,
so they turn it to scrap metal on the last buy back..
It was a Colt Detective Special SPIV.
Miss the little thing, shoot very nice too..

Just yesterday I put my old pancake holster up for sale on an Australian online auction.
The wife stamps down her foot.. "you ain't using it, so get rid of it!!"..
"Yes dear..."

I have thought about getting a CX4 in 9mm for Rabbits if that keeps this topic on topic. Laughing

Now 'mitri, what makes you think we want to stay on topic? We never...or should I say rarely do. Laughing

My favorite load for my .38 is 158gr sjhp over 5gr of Unique. They give rabbits a real headache.

A friend of mine used to have a Taurus snubby but he sold it. Claimed it wouldn't shoot. Funny thing is I picked it up, put my loads in it and shot baseball sized groups with it at 10 yards off hand.
