Remember the record Alberta Grizzly fell to a 22LR single shot.
Shot placement means more then the energy of the round or the size of the animal. A 110-120 ft lb crossbow makes short work of 200 pound+ deer at up to 60 yards. As long as the bullet is meant for penetration not a varmint bullet, it will probably work out as long as you can shoot straight and not miss the vital organs.

Bushy you aint BSing anybody with all that snow on your chin. I heard when you were in the service your serial number was 1, and it was chiseled in a stone tablet.
There has been many a deer fall prey to a 22LR. Very clean and quick.

Yup...There may be snow on the roof and snow by the entrance, but there's a raging fire in the furnace...

I keep the snow cut off, I'm just afraid one of these times it won't come back.

If I were to speculate I'd have to say close and personal. a 30-30 doesn't have much more range then a .22 heehee! In case you can't tell not a big fan.

Well this ol' Jackhandle has served me well for 40 years. Every thing from coyotes to Elk. It hits consistently a 3" dot at 100 yards if I do my part and it's 60 years old this year. Use for what it was designed for it's hard to beat. I'm not into lobing cannon balls at game nor do I need to shoot something out to 1 mile either. The .22 is used for mostly pleasure shooting at 25 and 50 yards. The .30 WCF is use on game up to 100 yards and the .30-06 is sighted in at 200 yards giving me up to 300 yards without changing the sight setting...What more could I ask for?
Say...Who started this thread? And did we answer his question?

I think it was answered long back. Hell we were even accused of being entertaining. The shame of it all. In case you can't tell I'm mischievous tonight. Good night all gotta go see the tattoo dude.
My opinion again for what it's worth 150gr to 180gr standard hunting bullets will do just fine.

I load sierra 160grn BTHP with 59grn AR2209 powder. I have found this load to be very accurate with good knock down power over medium to long range. I use a BRNO 550 30-06 and have had really good sucess with this load on a big buck kangaroo to wild pigs and red deer.
regards
