The 8x56 is a rimless cartridge with a design closer to the mauser design. The Steyr 8x56R cartridge uses a Mannlicher designed inline magazine with a clip that falls free after the last one is in battery. Now later the Mannlicher Schoenauer rifles had Steyr-Daimler-Puch on the left wall of the receiver and Mannlicher-Schoenauer on the front ring so I can see how some may become confused with a veritable who's who on one rifle. But the cartridges if compared side by side are extremely different in design and function and not interchangeable.

I use 49 grains of H4895 with good success. Got sooty cases with any less powder.

I have a 8X56R which I love to shoot, I put a limb saver on it for recoil. I am going to start reloading, i have a 200 grain jacketed soft point, It looks like the best powder is iether the 3031 or 4350. I have 2 cans of H4831SC has anyone used this on jacked bullets for this rifle. it shows a load for cast but not jacketed. Thank you for any Info

Well the 54 grs. of IMR 4350 have done good so far. I still have to fix my front sight to get the point of aim right for 50 yds. but our beautiful weather just turned to rain for the next few days. I have some rounds loaded up so I'm ready to go when the time comes. I was ready for using it for deer hunting last fall but I ended up taking one with my trusty old Remington model 8 35 cal.
