KW,
In this Great Land Of Oz, VithaVuori powders are easily available.
But due to the cost, they are expensive, I use Red Dot instead.

From the picture on the link you provided, I’m not sure they are safe either !!!
I see way too much air space in the case.
I quit shooting light loads in my 44mag for this reason.

Dear Sir, mr Gelandangan.
There is VihtaVuori N-32C / Tin Star special powder for Cow Boy Action Shooters.
It has low bulk density(* and burns very clean. Burning rate between N-320 and N-330. Is there Great Land Of Oz own powder like this?
*) less free base in the case.

I shoot remington jhp sub-sonics in my .45 and love them. They are extremly acurate and hit like freight trains. They also seem to make bigger dents in the steel plates than the full bore jhp's i was shooting at typical defence ranges.

An aquaintance here has a subsonic load for his .223, using a 55 grain bullet and a small charge of pistol powder. I'll get the powder and charge if anyone is interested.

I am totally ignorant about the use of subsonic cartridges.
Please explain me why a person would want to use them, and what benefits there are?

Lower noise report when shooting as there is no sonic boom from the ammunition breaking the sound barrier. Makes it very effective at taking small game even without a silencer. Hence why subsonic 22 rounds are nice to take out game inside a barn as the rest of the mice don't go off running.

Les, any bullet traveling about 1100 ft/sec or more will have a small sonic "boom" in addition to the muzzle blast. Subsonic rounds are easier to quiet with a sound suppressor. Another factor for .22 rimfire, and other cartridges at long ranges, is that, as the cartridge decelerates through the "sound barrier", it can become unstable due to turbulence. That’s one reason many .22 match loads are slow compared to the loads for hunting or plinking.

Hi KW.
We have here Trail Boss made by ADI/Thalles
They are used for Single Action / Cowboy action stuff.
Unfortunately the powder does not perform nicely in 300Whisper.
I am currently using 10.6gn of AR2205 on W65C 220gn round nose Woodleigh.
This would give me a nice 1 inch or less group at 100 meters.

Lester,
Subsonics cartridges are often more accurate and much nicer to shoot.
They do not hurt your shoulder and they do not hurt your ear.
They are very economical, I am using 10.6 grains of powder for each cartridge.
They do not stretch the case so you wont ever need to trim the case.
They do not stress the case, although I have about 1000 brass, I have a set of 20 that I have used over 30 times, and I think it will survive another 50 loads unless the neck split first.
They do not stress your rifle, I reckon I would have over 40K to 50K shots before my barrel need to be replaced.
I very seldom shoot over 100 meters distance, thus I have very little need for high velocity stuff.
I think I listed the majority of reason I shoot subsonics.
There ought to be more...

o.k. I know alot of us know this already and are taking it for granted but I feel like I need to put this in print for people who are unaware. Lester if this is you don't take offense I'm just trying to be safety concious and I haven't read this anywhere on this thread yet. Please don't under any circumstances try to reduce a high pressure rifle cartridge powder to the point of making a subsonic or reduced charge of some sort. There, I feel better now.

No offence taken, so sub sonics are just for handguns, and .22's?
Why not a rifle cartridge?

The military has sub-sonic 5.56 and, I believe, 7.62 nato mostly used in special-ops.

Yes but they generally use non-standard powders to do it to increase the case capacity to near full to prevent the issues of having the powder not get a reliable ignition from the primer.
Which reminds me, I have been told a good way to keep the powder down up against the primer is to add some cotton off a cotton ball to fill up the extra space.
